Funeral services will be held on Monday, September 29, 2014 at a 10:00 AM Mass of Christian Burial in Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist in Lafayette for Alvin Michael Comeaux, age 64, who died on Thursday, September 25, 2014 at Our Lady of Lourdes Regional Medical Center in Lafayette. Interment will be in Calvary Cemetery. Reverend Chester Arceneaux, Rector of Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist, will be the Celebrant of the funeral Mass and will conduct the funeral services. Lectors will be Suzie Smith and Mayo Smith. Giftbearers will be Jan Haydell and Angie Tabor. Jodi Bollich, vocalist, accompanied by Tom Niel, organist, will sing for the services, "Precious Lord, Take My Hand," "Psalm 23," "Ave Maria," "Pie Jesu," and "On Eagles' Wings." Sanford Comeaux, Jr. will sing, "How Great Thou Art" for the services. Survivors include his beloved wife of 38 years, Rainni Whipple Comeaux; two daughters, Casey Landry and her husband, Ryan and Jennifer Palacios and her husband, Patrick; one brother, Sanford Comeaux, Jr. and his wife, Pam; three grandchildren, Camryn Abshire, whom he thought of as a son, Emma Palacios and Carter Landry; one brother-in-law, Mac Mouton; his in-laws, Carl and Barbara Buetow; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Sanford Comeaux, Sr. and Mildred Judice Comeaux; and his sister, Clara Mouton; and an infant son. Alvin Michael Comeaux was a native and lifelong resident of Lafayette, Louisiana. He was a veteran of military service, proudly serving his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War. Mr. Comeaux enjoyed watching UL Athletics including UL football, basketball, baseball and softball as well as High School basketball. He was active in his community and spent his time volunteering for many sporting events including, the LA Open, UL Golf Tournament, LHSAA Top 28 Tournament and the Sunkist Shootout. Mr. Comeaux was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him, and will be dearly missed. Pallbearers will be Ryan Landry, Patrick Palacios, Harvey Broussard, Tommy Broussard, Mark Comeaux, Eddie Mouton, Mike Haydell and Pat Haydell. Honorary pallbearers will be Wayne LeBlanc, Camryn Abshire, and the Top 28 Blue Coats. A Rosary will be recited by the St. Jules Knights of Columbus, on Sunday, September 28, 2014 at 6:00 PM in Martin & Castille's DOWNTOWN Location. The family requests that visitation be observed on Sunday from 1:00 PM to 8:00 PM and will continue on Monday from 8:00 AM until time of services. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Mr. Comeaux's name to the UL Athletic Foundation, 201 Reinhardt Dr. Lafayette, LA 70506, Cathedral Carmel School, 848 St. John Street, Lafayette, LA. 70501, or De La Salle Christian Brothers, 1522 Carmel Dr. Lafayette, LA. 70501.
