Funeral services for Rev. Alvin Benard Downs, Jr., 78 of West Monroe are at 3:00 PM Sunday, July 11, 2010 at the First Assembly of God Church with Rev. Randy Bardwell officiating with interment at Kilpatrick’s Serenity Gardens, West Monroe under the direction of Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
Rev. Downs was born September 8, 1931 in West Monroe, LA and passed away July 7, 2010 in Ruston, LA. He was a foreman with Georgia Pacific and an ordained minister with the Assembly of God Church. He pastored churches in Marion, Chatham, Rayville, Rocky Branch, Arcadia, Start and Delhi. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin and Eleanor Downs, a son, Darwin Downs in 2001 and 2 brothers and 3 sisters.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carrie Lee Osbon Downs; sons, Barry V. Downs Sr. and wife Betty, Dennis Downs and wife Kryss, Gary Downs and wife Ramona;, daughter Karen Gaston and husband Danny; sister Magdalene Frost and husband Otto; brothers James Downs and wife Bobbie, Marvin Downs and wife Christine, Lonnie Downs and wife Betty, Alton Downs and wife Carol, Tommy Downs and wife Carol; 14 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be Saturday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM at Kilpatrick Funeral Home West Monroe.
