Alvin Rude Obituary

Published by Saskatoon StarPhoenix on Oct. 27, 2004.
RUDE _ Mr. Alvin Norman. With sadness we announce the passing of Alvin Rude on Sunday, October 24, 2004 following complications from surgery. A proud man with a keen wit he left this life surrounded by his family. Alvin was born in Birch Hills, SK and grew up on a farm near Bonnie Hill, SK. After completing grade eight at Bonnie Hill he attended Birch Hills High School. In 1942 Alvin contracted tuberculosis and spent most of the year in the Prince Albert Sanatorium. After graduation he started farming with his brother Einar. Alvin married Beth Warder in November of 1952. To supplement his grain farming Alvin passed his journeyman electrician's exam in the early 1960's. Farming and wiring, along with service on town council, and maintaining an interest in political affairs at all levels provided Alvin a full life. Alvin was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Masonic Lodge, Anavets and Elks Lodge. In 1995 Alvin's kidneys failed. Following two years of dialysis, in May 1997 a successful kidney transplant was performed. His wife Beth was the donor. Alvin is survived by his life-long partner, Beth; and two daughters, Kathy Berg and Kris (Danny) Dobratz. He was also very close to his five grandchildren, Tim Berg, Erin Berg, Erica Berg, Jennifer (Kevin) Fines and Logan Dobratz. Also left mourning his loss are his sister, Agnes Brett; sister-in-law, Ruth Rude; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Alvin was predeceased by his parents, Erick and Marie Rud; two brothers, Edwin (in infancy) and Einar Rude; two sisters, Selma Hastings and Edna Rude; his son-in-law, Ken Berg and brothers-in-law, Everett Hastings and Ralph Brett. The Funeral Service will be conducted on Thursday, October 28, 2004 at 1:30 p.m. in the Birch Hills Lutheran Church with Rev. Nora Vedress and Pastor Rick Johnson officiating. Interment of cremated remains Birch Hills Cemetery. In lieu of Flowers donations may be made to the Victoria Hospital Renal Dialysis Unit, Kidney Foundation of Canada, or charity of the donor's choice. Arrangements in care of MacKenzie Funeral Home, Brian Stobbs, Harry Matwishyn, Bev Stobbs Funeral Directors.
