A remarkable man who taught us resilience, humor, and the importance of always finding a way forward.

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Sgt. Alvin D. Toney, Sr. MSP (Retired), a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who peacefully passed away on March 7, 2025, at the age of 74 in Orange Park, FL.

Born in Worcester, MA, Sgt. Toney served with dedication in the Massachusetts State Police for 36 years, protecting and serving his community with unwavering integrity. He was incredibly committed to learning and personal growth. Alvin earned several degrees in Criminology and Psychology from Quinsigamond Community College, Worcester State College, Assumption College, and Anna Maria College.

Beyond his law enforcement career, he was enthusiastic about educating others. He spent over 20 years as an Adjunct Faculty member in Criminal Justice at Quinsigamond Community College, where he mentored and shaped thousands of future professionals in the field.

Outside of work, Alvin enjoyed studying history, traveling, football, spending time at the beach, swimming, working out at the gym, and going to the shooting range. Most importantly, he cherished moments with his family, especially his grandchildren. His kindness, generosity, compelling storytelling, and sharp humor left an indelible mark on everyone who knew him.

Alvin is predeceased by his parents Albert Sr. and Katherine, his three siblings Alberta, Kevin, and William, and his nephew Eric of Worcester, MA. Alvin has one surviving sibling, three children, eight grandchildren, two great grandchildren, one godchild and spent his life building an impressive legacy for his family.

Alvin is survived by his beloved wife of 55 years, Felicita; children and their spouses, Angie and Dan, Alvin and Preteena, and Katherine II; sibling Albert Jr. (Deborah); grandchildren, Meghan, Alyssa, Tian, Givon, Giann, Aidan, Alvin III, and Alvin G.; great grandchildren, Vivian and Abigail; Nieces and Nephews, Jimmy (Linda), Tyrone (Lisa), Todd, Brandon (Jemila), Albert III (Keith), Chris, and Kimberly; Godson David and family Pam, Reed, Thomasina, Kora, Joshua, Tabitha, Connor, and Nancy who endeared him lovingly as Uncle Al.

A funeral service to honor Alvin's life will be held at Mary Queen of Haven Catholic Church, 9401 Staples Mill Dr., Jacksonville, FL 32244, Saturday, March 29, 2025, at 11:00 AM. My sincere condolences to the Toney family. My father, Bob Holmes, Holden PD knew Mr. Toney well and they were good friends from the early days of Trooper Toney´s career. After my father was hurt Al would often come by and check on my mom and brother and kept in touch with my dad and provided him encouragement. He was a great man.

Alvin and I met through law enforcement where we went on many capers together. We teased each other constantly on who was better the State Police or Municipal. We quickly became friends and then we all became family. We spent many cookouts together, Christmas celebrations, and boy the Halloween trick or treating was a blast. I can't say enough about his character and what an honor it was to call him my brother. The day he passed, I lost a little piece of my heart. My heartfelt condolences go out to Felicita and her entire family...I love you all.

I offer my deepest and sincere condolences to Alvin´s heartbroken family. I haven´t seen Alvin in many years, but was familiar with his many accomplishments as a Public Servant who understood the job he took very seriously and professionally. His family has an Angel now who will spiritually watch over all those he loved. I pray comfort and loving memories for the family as they go through this very difficult time. Another beautiful man called home, to watch over us and love us all from Heaven. Al truly was the kindest man. Family meant everything to him. I will miss his voice, his laugh, his story telling, the hugs that fully embraced me and sharing my grandson with him through text messages and phone calls. Thank you Al for loving us too
