Alvin James Veselka passed away peacefully surrounded by family on the 14th day of April 2024, at the age of 89. He was born on the 23rd day of December 1934 to Walter E. Veselka and Mary Zita Veselka.

Al was raised on a farm in West Sinton with his five siblings and moved to Robstown after his high school graduation. After graduating from Texas A & I - Kingsville, he enlisted in the Army and served as a 2nd Lieutenant of the special troops' unit followed by eight years in the U.S. Reserves.

Al was devoted to his faith and family as well as the communities he served and was an active member of the First United Methodist Church in Yoakum.

Al proudly served as city manager in three communities Robstown, Taft, and the City of Yoakum where he retired. He served on numerous civic committees in each city. He was a lifetime member of Rotary Club where he was bestowed the Paul Harris Fellow.

Al resided at Mirador Retirement Community with Suzanne until his passing and his family, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren were the joy of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter E., and Mary Zita Veselka; brothers, Walter E. Veselka Jr. and Ernest Veselka; sister Alice Loeffler; infant daughter Carol Veselka; and son James Morgan Veselka.

He is survived by the love of his life for 68 years, Suzanne, whom he affectionately called Suz and lovingly cared for all the days of his life; daughters, Susan (John) Dorow, Karen (Chris) Bridger, daughter-in-law Rebecca Veselka; grandchildren, Ashley (Ashton) Anderson, Andrew (Tatum) Dorow, James Ryan Veselka, and Shelby Bridger; great-grandchildren: Jackson, Easton, and Brecken Anderson, Gunner, Lilly, and Lucy Dorow; brothers: Reynold (Mary Louise) Veselka and Eugene Veselka. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.

In Lieu of flowers, the family requests with gratitude that memorial contributions be given in Al's memory to the First United Methodist Church - Yoakum, 1026 E. Gonzalez, Yoakum, Texas 77995, or a charity of choice.

Funeral arrangements entrusted to Sawyer-George Funeral Home. 12497 Leopard St., Corpus Christi, Texas 78410. 361-242-3205. Visitation will begin at noon on April 21, 2024, with the funeral service to follow at 2:00 pm. Burial will follow at the Robstown Cemetery. A celebration of life will be held at First United Methodist Church in Yoakum at a later date.
