Alvis Reed "Al" Grayson

ODESSA Alvis Reed "Al" Grayson passed away on Tuesday, June 2, 2015.

MEMORIAL SERVICES Services followed by interment: 4:00 PM Friday, June 5, 2015 at Sunset Memorial Gardens and Funeral Home Chapel in Odessa, Texas. Visitation will be Thursday, June 4, 2015 from 5-7 PM at Sunset Funeral Home.

Al was born January 22, 1920 in Clarksville, Texas to Henry and Letha Grayson. Al married Edna Elson on September 30, 1947 in Bogota, Texas. They were happily married 61 years.

He was a decorated WWII veteran. Recipient of the Purple Heart, for wounds received during campaigns in both France and Germany. He also served in the Normandy Campaign. He was the recipient of a battlefield commission, promoting him to the rank of 2nd Lieutenant. He proudly served in the U.S. Army 313th Infantry Regiment, 79th Infantry Division.

Al moved to Odessa in 1948, where he worked in the Oil and Gas industry for several years before taking a position with a Dallas based Insurance Company. He returned to the Oil and Gas industry many years later, where he retired from S & W Tackaberry Safety and Supply in 1990, as an outside sales representative.

He was a member of Crescent Park Baptist Church located in Odessa, Texas, for 54 years. His hobbies included: hunting and fishing, gardening, as well as spending time with his family.

Al had three brothers and one sister, all who have preceded him in death.

SURVIVORS Sons, Rodney of Odessa and Lynn and his wife Mary of Cleburne, Texas. Grandchildren are Dylan (Odessa) and Joshua and Ryleigh of (Cleburne, Texas).
