Alyssa Catherine Boyd, age 11, of 10 Cheyenne St., passed away on Sunday, March 29, 2009, at Duke University Medical Center following a 14-month illness.She was born in Greenwood, S.C., and resided in Haywood County most of her life. Alyssa was a fifth grade "A" honor roll student at Clyde Elementary School and a member of AIG. She was a member of Crestview Baptist Church and member of the children's choir. She played one season of soccer.She is survived by her father, Steven Lee Boyd of Americus, Ga.; mother, Ginger Phillips Boyd and her special friend, Anthony Payne; siblings, Kaitlyn Boyd, Daniel Phillips, Savannah Phillips-Payne and Anthony's son, Dakota Payne, all of the home; maternal grandparents, Gerald Blazer of Dandridge, Tenn., and Wayne and Elizabeth Rathbone of Waynesville; paternal grandfather, Thomas Richard Boyd Sr. of Americus, Ga.; and paternal stepgrandfather, Michael J. Whitley, of Cobb, Ga.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Crestview Baptist Church with the Rev. Dean Clontz and the Rev. Barry Willett officiating. Burial will follow at Owens Family Cemetery. The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at Wells Funeral Home of Waynesville.Memorials may be made to Arts for Life or Child Life, both located at Memorial Mission Hospital, 509 Bilmore Ave., Asheville, NC 28801 or the Lewis Rathburn Wellness Center, 121 Sherwood Road, Asheville, NC 28803.For those who desire, an on-line memorial register is available at "Obituaries" at "www.wellsfuneralhome.com"
