Amy Cobb Obituary

Published by Daily Progress from Nov. 18 to Nov. 20, 2012.
Amy Lynn Cobb

Amy Lynn Cobb, 35, died on Thursday, November 15, 2012, at her home in Barboursville, Virginia. Amy was born on June 2, 1977, at the Martha Jefferson Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia. Amy is the only daughter of Joseph H. and Diane S. Cobb. Amy was preceded in death by her grandmother, Maybell Harris of Charlottesville, Virginia; and her grandparents, Joseph A. and Virginia M. Cobb of Esmont, Virginia. Amy graduated from Western High School in 1995, worked for UPS, FedEx, Plow and Hearth and then became certified through Piedmont Virginia Community College as a pharmacy tech, and for the last five years worked for University of Virginia in their pharmacy. She loved her job and the people she worked with. Amy grew up playing baseball and then softball for Western Albemarle High School. She earned the MVP award. Amy will best be remembered for her love of animals. She grew up raising calves and baby lambs off of the bottle. She was forever taking in kittens and dogs someone couldn't keep. When she was not working, she hardly ever went anywhere without her beloved dog, Idgie. Amy was a dedicated Virignia Tech fan and loved to tease her friends who were University of Virginia fans whenever Virginia Tech won. Amy will also be remembered for her beautiful smile and great personality. Amy is survived by her parents, Joseph H. and Diane S. Cobb of Charlottesville, Virginia; her brother, Joseph "Adam" Cobb, his wife, Nichole, and her niece, Summer Grace Cobb, whom she adored. Amy always carried a picture of Summer in her wallet. She is also survived by her uncle, David Cobb and his wife, Pat, of Troy, Virginia; her aunt, Marie Cobb Melton and her husband, Steve, of Crozet, Virginia; her aunt, Pat Bishop and her husband, Ernest, of Charlottsville, Virginia; her aunt, Ruby Dean and her husband, Cohill, of Charlottesville, Virginia; an uncle, Cecil Sites of Charlottesville, Virginia; an aunt, Lucy Pritchett of Charlottesville, Virginia; an uncle, Eddie Dean and his wife, Becky, of Charlottesville, Virginia; and many close and special cousins. We would like to give special thanks to Amy's very best friend, Connie Powell and her husband, David, of Elkton, Virginia. When Amy wasn't working she always made a trip to Connie's house to play scrabble. Amy was also close to Nikki Brookman and her husband, Kevin, of Ruckersville, Virginia. There were many more, but too numerous to mention by name. A graveside services will be held 11 a.m. on Tuesday, November 20, 2012, at Holly Memorial Gardens on 29 North in Charlottesville, Virginia, with Pastor Roy Thomas, officiating. Amy will be laid to rest beside her grandmother, Maybell Harris.

There will be no formal visitation but friends and family are welcome to pay their respects at the funeral home. Because of Amy's love of animals, anyone wishing to make a donation to the SPCA would be appreciated, P.O. Box 296, Charlottesville, VA 22906. God bless and we are thankful for Amy's love and devotion for the short time she was here on earth. I was talking to my father last week and he mentioned to me a classmate had passed away. I was horrified when I found out it was Amy. She was so kind, always wore a smile, and never seemed to have anything neg to say. My deepest sympathy to her close friends and family. So sorry for your loss of such a dear person.

I always enjoyed my time with Amy at UVA pharmacy in the afternoons and evenings. As fellow neighbors, we would discuss the goings on in Greene County and Toms road. Amy always looked out for a Anne, our dog whom enjoyed the road from time to time. We often talked about family, and our pets. Amy was always reliable and cared about her work and patients. I miss her and especially her laugh! Blessings and prayers to all her family and friends.

I was fortunate to work with Amy at UVA inpatient pharmacy, she is also one of my neighbors. I will miss her laugh and my country music fan. She and I had to work last year together on Thanksgiving and I remember starting to play Christmas music, I will take her in my heart to my country concerts and I know she is looking down from heaven looking in on the cat sanctuary. She will be missed very much.
