Amy Cole Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 3, 2024.
Amy Nicole Cole was born October 14, 1970, in Houston, TX. She passed away peacefully on March 31, 2024, in New York, NY, after a brief illness. She was a beloved daughter, sister, aunt, friend and colleague. Amy was known for her caring nature and ability to make everyone she met feel seen and special. It was obvious from the beginning that her purpose in life was to take care of people, and she certainly excelled in that calling. Those who had the good fortune of knowing Amy experienced her as the ultimate caregiver. Her ability to forge lasting friendships was unparalleled, and her love for travel allowed her to spread her goodwill across the globe.

After completing her education at St. Agnes Academy, Texas Tech University, and Wheelock College, Amy embarked on a fulfilling career path as a caregiver in various capacities. Upon graduation from college, she worked as a nanny in New Jersey. She went on to earn her Master's degree in Child Life and worked for years as a Child Life Specialist at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. In 2002, Amy's adventurous spirit inspired her to leave Houston and move to Manhattan. She worked as a Production Assistant and Executive Assistant on various television shows, including Tough Crowd with Colin Quinn, The Colbert Report, and The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Working with Colbert for 16 years was more than a job to Amy. It gave her a purpose and provided an opportunity to showcase herself as an incredible teammate to everyone involved. She was adored by her entire Late Show work family, and she will be greatly missed.

Amy remembered the important dates in your life and wrote the most thoughtful notes. She gave nicknames that stuck and recalled hilarious memories in detail. She was instantly loved and admired by every child that she encountered. Amy expressed gratitude... always... even during difficult times.

Amy is survived by her loving parents, Kathy and Warren Cole, her sisters Abby (Mike) Miggins and Libby (Sean) Clancy, her nieces Molly, Cate, Lucy, and Claire Miggins, her nephew Jack Clancy, as well as numerous other surrogate nieces and nephews. Her circle of friends is too numerous to begin to estimate. Once you met Amy, you were a friend for life.

A special and sincere thank you to the staff at Memorial Sloan Kettering for their steadfast care and support.

A memorial service to honor Amy's life will be held at St. Agnes Academy in Meyer Hall on Saturday, April 20, 2024, at 2pm. In honor of Amy's lifelong dedication to children and education, in lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Agnes Academy (https://www.st-agnes.org/support-us/memorials-and-tributes), Radio Lollipop (https://www.radiolollipop.org/amy) or Donorschoose.org.

We met Amy in summer 2023 in London. We enjoyed great chats over dinner and talked about our love of visiting NYC and planned to meet up again when we were next there. As a family we are shocked and saddened to hear of Amy´s passing after only finding out yesterday. Thinking of Amy´s loved ones.

Dear Kathy and Warren, we are heartbroken at the immeasurable loss of your beautiful, talented, kind, and amazing daughter. Though we only knew Amy briefly from so many years ago during the Lake McQueeney days, it is impossible to forget her. Even then as a little girl her charismatic personality and genuine sweet and caring nature were fully evident. Reading through the tributes, the messages are striking in the portrait they paint of an extraordinary woman, so loving and giving and so well love, admired and respected. We share in your grief and pain, and send all our love and sympathies. Nancy & Sam Santana

Kathy and Warren, Kelly and I are so sorry for your loss. We know how proud you were of Amy. I remember you talking about here to me at P&L when I was just a baby lawyer myself and I thought how special it was that a parent had such pride in their children. You and Kathy were role models for us in raising our children. I know Amy was the amazing person she was, lived and cared for by so many, in large part because of your live and support. I can´t imagine how you and your family feel at this time but just know that there is a lot of love and support out here for you.

I´m heartbroken to hear of Amy´s passing. Amy and I worked together at Texas Children´s Hospital as Child Life Specialists. She was a beautiful soul with the best sense of humor. She spent a lot of time with myself and my young family back then. Always so great with my kiddos.
Even though I didn´t see her much after her move to NYC, when we did connect she was exactly the same bright light.

My deepest condolences to all of Amy´s friends and family. My continued prayers for peace and healing

I send my hearts condolences to Amy's family and friends. I just heard the sad news now and it is a terrible shock and loss. Amy hired me for a short term job in 2018. After the job completed and the pandemic set in, unprompted she kept referring me to clients and kept work coming my way during a very uncertain and challenging time. She had enough on her plate, she did not have to do that. I have worked with many celebrity assistants and she stood out for her unusual kindness, humor and grace. I feel a loss and I hardly knew her, I can't imagine how sad this is for family and close friends. I really hope and trust that Amy's unstoppable kindness and grace still will continue to find a way into all the hearts and lives of those she touched.

So sorry for your loss. I first met Amy in 1999 when I started volunteering with Radio Lollipop at Texas Children's Hospital in Houston. We connected again when she was in NYC and played a key role in getting Radio Lollipop established in NYC. She was truly an inspiration and will be missed by all.

Our bright and shining Amy . . . It makes no sense at all that you have been taken from the world. I´m so privileged to have known you, you lovely, special girl! When I met you through Claresa, our mutual Sis, you were going by "Ammie," and your beautiful eyes shone with a mischievous light. Through the years, whenever I was in your company, I felt welcome and loved. My fellow Libra, you took me around Houston and showed me your old school and your family home and all the places your Red River Gilly Girls used to hang out, and we laughed about how the tour was like "Welcome Home, Roxy Carmichael." You put me up in your place in New York, too, when I was an overflow guest at Claresa´s . . . I can still hear your voice saying, "Careful, the shower is kinda temperamental." We swam in the sea after Sissa´s 30th birthday clambake, and we shared many a beverage. Amy the Brave, Amy the Kind, Effervescent Amy with the lively, lovely laugh . . . I was so looking forward to seeing you in August . . . You were such a great friend to our Claresa and her family. I love you.

I've known Amy for many years through a membership we've shared with New York Celebrity Assistants (NYCA). Amy was an active member and shared resources and insights to many of us in search for the impossible "finds" in NYC especially. Then as Assistant to James Taylor I had the privilege to work with Amy through at The Late Show several times in the last decade. The consummate professional and colleague. She will be missed my the JT team and so many in the "assistant" community in NYC. Condolences especially to her family and close friends.

My heart aches for the Cole family. Amy was the perfect Aunt to Abby and Mike's 4 girls - caring and cool. Saying the 'she will be missed' just doesn't come close. There are no words. I'm sorry for your loss. God rest her soul!

I was so heartbroken to learn of Amy´s untimely passing. I had the pleasure of working with her years ago at The Colbert Report. Like the obituary states, from the moment I stepped into The Report office, Amy made me feel seen and special. She was welcoming, warm, friendly, kind, and she treated me with respect even though I was at the low end of the show´s totem pole. Despite her busy schedule everyday, she still had time for a chat, and it was always pleasant and enjoyable.

Whenever I think back on that time in my life, Amy and her sweet smile and beautiful eyes have always been constant in my memory. When I left the show, I knew Amy was going to be one of a handful of people I was truly going to miss. And I really have.

I only knew Amy for a little over a year nearly 14 years ago, and yet I feel like I lost a dear, close friend. The fact that she made that much of an imprint in my mind is a testament to Amy and her beautiful spirit.

My deepest, sincerest condolences to Amy´s family and friends, and to the Late Show team.

I feel so blessed to have know Amy thru my sister Kim Korte. She visited us in Grapevine TX. When she moved to NY, so many times she hosted Kim and I with tickets to shows and the dinners afterwards. Such a happy smiling person, giving and just a wonderful person. She will be missed
