There´s only one Dr. Amy Reed, I haven´t met anyone close to who she was. She didn´t have one or two kids, she had six, it´s no different than how she looked at her husband, work and life, her ideas were bigger than life, her perspective was large. She was truly a powerful woman who wanted to do it all.
In life we have all heard the saying as a child "Do the right thing", and sadly as many get older in our careers and responsibilities we don´t live or think by that rule.
Many make selfish, easy decisions that are many times not about "Doing the right thing".
If these doctors, nurses, and hospitals lived by that rule. If everyone lived by that rule, more people would be alive and we would see less negativity.

I only met Amy once in their home when I visited them travelling to US. I am always moved thinking the legacy that she left behind in her beautiful children. Hope passage of time has lessened the pain of grief for the loved ones while love for her remains in our heart.

Although another year has passed, my memory of Amy's struggle and courage remain so vivid, it seems the events surrounding her needless death occurred only yesterday. To Amy, my dear sister, and all those who lost their lives to this illness - may you rest peacefully. You are never forgotten. Thank you Hooman for your selfless efforts and contributions.

Much love from members of Medical Error Transparency. Your family´s videos, articles and openness created transparency for families from coast to coast and showed family love like no other. Amy is missed but not forgotten, and she helped countless families understand things like code of silence, deny and defend, and other ways that errors may get handled. Sharing this story gave other families courage.

Although I never had the good fortune to meet Amy, I shall never forget her courage and unrelenting commitment to trying to ensure others did not have to endure her illness. She was an extraordinary spokeswoman even though she was gravely ill. Both Amy and Dr. Noorchashm are truly heroes who embody all that is good and honorable in this world. I am forever grateful to Amy for her efforts and to Dr. Noorchashm for his integrity as he persists in exposing some very unethical practices and individuals. Amy shall forever be remembered by me as a person whose character is worthy of emulation.

Dr. Amy Reed bravely broke the healthcare code of silence, and average families (like mine), read about her in papers and social media Facebook groups like Medical Error Transparency Plan, Patient Safety Action Network, & Mothers Against Medical Errors. She and Dr. Noorchashm taught us so much, and she was also a role model. We miss her and appreciate her family.

Hooman
I have struggled with knowing the best way to reach out to you and introduce myself and offer my help and condolences. I have thought of and prayed for you, for Amy and for your family since I first became aware of Amy's plight. I have composed letters to you in my head. It has never felt like the right time to send them.
However, this morning I sat in the pre op area of a local hospital and listened while the patient next to us was consented for surgery. My anxiety grew as I heard she had a uterine mass and was having a hysterectomy, then realized it was laparoscopic. The patient was a doctor herself so I assured myself that she knew what was happening. And I thought of you and Amy again and my anxiety grew more. Amy's funeral Mass booklet sat beside me in my purse because despite taking all but the essentials out of my purse last night, I couldn't bring myself to part with it. And then I heard the patient's (non-medical) husband ask "Can you tell us how you will take it out? Will it be taken out in one piece?" And the resident responded "Yes. I know you hear a lot about morcellation these days. We don't do that."
And I thought "THANK YOU, AMY AND HOOMAN. YOU DID THAT."
Across the country and the world, people are asking this question because of you. Not just physicans, not just physicians who are patients, not just patients, but non-medical husbands of patients. You did this.
It seemed to me that this was the best way to start our conversation. I'll still send you one of those letters in my head. I'll still offer my help and condolences in a proper fashion. But let this moment of awe and praise for Amy be the beginning.
Much love
Ann

Dr. Hooman Noorchashm, My sincerest condolences to you and your children. Please know that I consider both you and your wife Hero's. To fight the fight and still think of all the people that came after her is astounding to me. I have no idea how many lives both of you have saved by your stance and bucking the system in which you were both firmly entrenched is amazing. My heart aches for you and your children. Just know how many of us are thinking of all of you.

My deepest condolences. We have all lost loved ones; Amy's passing strikes deep for many, but mostly for the family. I cannot imagine what you are experiencing. Some have told me that time lessens the pain of a loved one lost. Don't believe it. It is an untrue. The pain will endure but that may not be a bad thing. I've never wanted the pain to leave me; it is the reminder of the missing. As memories fade, the pain of love lost keeps our loved ones vivid and present. Stay strong, look forward but don't let go of the past.

I first became aware of Amy when she wrote an article in July, 2014, for the American Society of Anesthesiologists monthly magazine (http://monitor.pubs.asahq.org/article.aspx?articleid=2432263&resultClick=3), describing what had happened and the challenges she and her family faced. I was so moved, I sent her an email and she gave me the link to follow their campaign to end power morcellation, which I have shared with everyone I know. I have been following this ever since, and am so saddened for her husband and children that they have lost such a loving and courageous wife and mother. Amy and Hooman's tireless fight to stop this practice has saved countless lives, so how awful that hers was not one of them. I don't know how they did it in the midst of their own battle with cancer -- I can't imagine how hard that was. You all are in my thoughts and prayers, and I am sure Amy is watching over her family with the amazing love, strength and tenacity that she showed throughout her life. I am so deeply sorry for your loss, and grateful that you both made a difference in our lives -- my life -- not only by hopefully ending morcellation forever but inspiring me with your courageous effort to ensure this doesn't happen to anyone else. God bless you all. Amy, rest in peace.

We all struggle in vain to find the right words to ease your pain. We all fail miserably. It all sounds just so trite, doesn't it, like platitudes in a sympathy card? Just know that we care about you. You hurt and we hurt. We hurt because we choose to hurt. We choose to hurt because we care, as if somehow that knowledge will bring you a fraction of comfort. May your memories of Amy quickly bring smiles to replace tears. May your dreams be made of cotton. May you feel her presence around you at the most needed times for years to come.

"If I could speak and understand in all the languages of the people of the world or even of angels, but didn't have love, what good would that be? I would only be like a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. 2 If I had the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that could literally move mountains, but do not have love, I am nothing. 3 If I give everything I possess to the poor-- and even give over my body to hardship that I may boast, but do so without love, I gain nothing.
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.
8 Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease; where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. 9 For we know in part and we prophesy in part, 10 but when completeness comes, what is in part disappears. 11 When I was a child, I talked like a child, I thought like a child, I reasoned like a child. When I became a man, I put the ways of childhood behind me. 12 For now we see only a reflection as in a mirror; then we shall see face to face. Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known.
13 And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love." - I Corinthians chapter 13

I learned of Amy's cancer diagnosis at the same time I learned of mine. Although our stories were very different, I felt that Amy's continuous fight for women's protection was a constant light in my life. She gave me the persistence, the drive and the courage to fight my illness and most importantly, to never complain, because there are so many more people so much worse off than me. I am so grateful for the Noorchasm family for being so strong at a very difficult time and for having the strength, through their darkness, to help other people. Her family, her children should be so proud of what this wonderful woman has done. She will always be a hero and a beautiful light that will shine on always through her children. I wish her peace and hope that she will be watching over all of us. Love to AMY!

She was beautiful, but not like those girls in the movies. She was beautiful for the way she thought. She was beautiful for that sparkle in her eyes when she talked about something or someone she loved. She was beautiful for her ability to make other people smile even when she was sad. No, she wasn't beautiful for something as temporary as her looks. She was beautiful, deep down to her soul. --- anonymous

My thoughts and prayers go out to you Hooman and the whole family. So sorry for the loss of your brave, courageous and selfless wife who was taken from you much too soon. She was one in a million, devoting her precious time to help others. She bought victory out of a tragedy for the good of others.
Without having heard about Amy's story I'd never have made the connection as to why my mothers cancer reoccurred so soon and so aggressively (her uterus was manually morcellated). Unfortunately this information came too late and I lost my mother but I am determined here in the U.K to highlight this cause and not allow my mothers death and Amy's to be in vain. I am making some progress but will keep going until I get the right answers and see change.

There is no doubt she saved hundreds or even thousands of lives by sharing her story. But also I believe if Amy hadn't shared her story, Woman like myself would not have learned of the potential hidden dangers that my DR's use of the morcellator, subjected me too. Words are inadequate to express my feelings. You have suffered an enormous loss.
No one accomplishes more than Amy did. Every day, lives are saved because of her good work. Every patient is safer. She changed history.

Our hearts have broken as we have watched. Our souls have admired your grace. Your courage has left a mark on us. You have honored the community by sharing this part of your lives. I told my new friends here in Georgia about Amy, and her battle. One friend halted a hysterectomy with a morcellator after our conversation. Amy's legacy goes beyond saving lives- she was so loving! She remained a caring mother, wife, friend by all accounts until the very end. I am inspired by her courage- and to always live each day to the fullest. I have faith that she is with God, and she will be praying for her loved ones until all of you meet again. I tear up every time I see a picture of her- it is still hard to believe. We are very sorry to see Amy depart from this earth. She has been a true blessing for humanity. We will forever treasure the time our two families spent together in Boston. She was a wonderful wife, mother and doctor and a true warrior and hero. We have all gained a wonderful intercessor in heaven. Our love and prayers go to Hooman and all the children.

I am very so sorry for your loss. I wish to thank you for this fight against the morcellation procedure. I was advised to have this procedure in October of 2014 and because of the light you shined on this dangerous procedure I am alive and fine after refusing this method of procedure. Many lives are being saved due to your work. Rest in peace Amy Reed. Condolences to all who know and love her. Thank you.
