Shalom,Liane,Claudine,Roger.
P.S. Carol-Susan,Jérémie,Emilie... we will never forget André.... Faith and Hope in the spiritual things will bring you Peace in your heart ! Shalom is with you...

I was truly stunned to learn of Andre's passing. Though it has been years since he taught me to appreciate the Canadian winter by embracing it, I still have fond memories of our late night cross country skiing forays. It is hard to believe that he has gone from us, but it is comforting to know that he knew where he was going. As scripture says, "Precious in the Lord's sight is the death of his saints." My condolences go to Carol-Sue and the family. We are poorer for his absence, but richer for who he was.

My condolences to the family of André. He introduced me to that very special art of recovering tiny quantities of precious metals from huge tonnage of rocks. We owe him the idea of merging metallurgy with geostatistics, which he was one of the rare non-specialists to understand. Beyond metallurgy, André has always been for me the prototype of the enlightened man, the pure product of the old Quebec “classical” education system, with a vast culture, a voracious curiosity as well as a contagious dynamism, a profoundly British sense of humour and an enormous French joie de vivre.

It is with deep regret that I offer my sincerest condolences to Professor Laplante's family. A family member is irreplaceable.
As a former undergraduate student of his, there are many instances of his antics that could be shared. Unfortunately, I am at such a loss for words that all I can muster at this time is that he will be missed.

My condolences to the family of my good friend Andre. I had the opportunity to work with him during my PhD at McGill. Thanks for the advices and enjoyable discussions. I will miss your aussie hat my mate, your funny Spanish and the way you showed me how to walk on the icy streets of Montreal.

My condolences to the Laplante family:
I remember Andre as a wonderful, enthusiastic person, and I will treasure memories of my contact with him at McGill, technical conferences and generally within the mining community. His contributions to the mining industry within Canada and abroad were significant. His professional manner and enthusiastic approach will be missed very much.

I was with André just a couple of days before his death. He appeared to be in the best of health, as he always did, and was very excited about his new house in Queensland, wanting to show me pictures of it. Unfortunately, I could not just then, but was going to see him next week. This news is incomprehensible, for he was one of the fittest and most active people I ever knew.
I knew him as friend and colleague for over twenty years. About three years ago, we spent a most enjoyable day in a South African Game Park, and despite there being most of the “big five” he was most interested in the bird life, which was indeed quite wonderful. He was passionate about everything that he did and about his family. Inadequate as it is, I can only offer my deepest and sincerest condolences to Carol-Sue and his children.
One of his common sayings was “to let the rocks talk” and I believe that he understood gravity separation of minerals better than anybody I have ever known. The rewards he received and his achievements in the metallurgical industry are testimony to his outstanding abilities, both as a teacher and as a researcher. Our small industry can ill afford to lose someone of his abilities and passion, and he was taken from us far too early, for he still had much to offer.
André, it was a privilege to have known you as a colleague and an honour to have had you as a friend. Wherever you now are, I hope that the rocks are still talking to you.

To the family of Prof. Laplante, I wish to add my sincere condolences. While he would not have remembered me, I remember vividly an introductory short course on mineral processing he gave at McGill more than twenty years ago, when I was still new to the field. I remember a friendly, energetic, athletic, enthusiastic young man showing us around his research facility. Our paths crossed again over the years when he would visit our labs at CANMET (Natural Resources Canada) or attend the annual CMP convention.
A great man who will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

As a former MgCill student and member of the Canadian Mineral Processors, I was deeply shocked and saddened when I heard about the passing of Andre. My heart deeply grieves at the sudden loss of dear friend, Andre. This loss is an incredible shock to everyone who knows Andre around the globe, a huge loss to the world mining industry. Andre played a pivotal role in my personal life and professional career since 1999 and his incredible academic supervision for my postgraduate study from 1999 to 2004 in McGill will always be in my memory for ever.
Andre was an internationally recognized expert in gravity methods for recovering gold and pioneered in developing and creating the industry¡¯s standard characterization methods, Gravity recoverable gold (GRG). His incredible contributions to gold gravity recovery, R&D, dedication in high academic level teaching, his personal connections and care to students and friends, his solid family values will always be remembered.
My deepest sympathy, condolences and sincere regrets go to Carol-Sue, Jeremie and Amelie at this very sad time.

Helen and I are shocked and greatly saddened to know of Andre's sudden death. I had the joy of joining him in holy matrimony to Carol Sue over 28 years ago. We have remained friends through the years.
With gratitude, appreciation, hope, and much love we lay him in the arms of the Lord he so loved. And our prayers follow Carol Sue and her family.

As a graduate student at McGill, I had the chance to see Andre walking down the corridor every day. He used to talk to everybody, even with his crazy Spanish that I used to bother him so much about. His warmth, happiness, and jokes will always be remembered.
Prof. Laplante, siempre estaras en nuestros corazones.

My wife Carole and I were shocked and saddened by the news of André’s sudden death. We shared some good times together at mineral processing conferences, including a trip from Dresden to Berlin in 1991. He was a respected member of our mineral processing fraternity and I always valued his opinion. We will miss him greatly. Our condolences to his family.

Words seem so inadequate....know that our deepest sympathy and prayers are with you. James and I will always remember Andre for his love of life, but most especially his love for his family, his work and God. We thank God for Andre's life and the fine example he set for all as a husband, father, professional and faithful loving Christian man. We also thank God that Andre was able to enrich so many lives, including ours.

I have had the privilege of André’s friendship since 1991, and of his academic guidance during postgraduate studies 2002-2006. In the path of life, here and there, one encounters a very few individuals who have a significant role in one’s personal or professional development. André Robert Laplante was one of these. I can sincerely say that his dedication to teaching at a very high academic level, his meaningful connection to the mineral processing industry, his personal care with his students, his energy, and his solid family values, all stand as testament to a great man who will be well remembered and sorely missed. My condolences and deepest sympathy go to Carol-Sue, Jérémi and Emelie at this very sad time.

The news took us totally by surprise. André had such a love of life, and we will miss seeing him at his computer playing chess or bridge. He has affected our lives deeply for avery long time, and both of you have been so dear to us. We want to question God's wisdom in taking someone with so much to give others, and so many talents to share. Know without doubt that our prayers and thoughts are with you, Carol Sue, and the kids. We wish we could be there with you.

The loss of our dear friend Andre is an incredible shock that will be felt around the globe.
Andre's contribution in the areas of testing, R&D, hundreds of technical presentations and papers to the field of mineral recovery and especially enhanced gravity recovery is an awesome testament to his dedication to these areas of specialized knowledge. Andre leaves behind him some incredibly large shoes to fill and I believe it is safe to say that everyone in the field of mineral processing and the mining industry in general has benefited from Andre’s work and life in one form or another.
Andre was a truly unique individual who carried with him an incredible presence of knowledge, respect and fun. He was always a pleasure to be around and we will miss him dearly.
I offer my condolences and sincere regrets to Andre’s family. You should know that Andre’s “extended” family around the world is mourning with you.

Former student of Prof. Laplante from 1984-1988.
It is with tremendous sadness that I learn the news of Andre's sudden passing. He was a great teacher and a scholar, with the uncanny ability to make people laugh as he shared his wisdom and humanity.
Andre played a pivotal role in my life. It was thanks to his recruitement visit at my high school (Stanislas) in 1983 that I chose Metallurgical Engineering as a field of study, and as a profession ever since.
