Andrea Rogers Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Sep. 29, 2023.
Born to Stephen and Elizabeth "Sue" (Dickison) Rogers on September 1, 1978, Andrea Lynn Rogers, tragically passed away after her heart transplant surgery on September 25, 2023 at Yale New Haven Hospital (YNHH).

Born with a heart condition, Tetralogy of the Fallot, Andrea endured a lifetime of health issues and multiple surgeries until a few years ago when her cardiologist team broke the news that her 40 something year old heart was getting tired and should be replaced. She would soon connect with a heart failure specialist that would map out her transplant plan. At that point, having a heart transplant was nothing that was discussed with the Rogers family, but based on her latest test results along with her history, she accepted this path. She was sure a new heart would lead to a better, healthier life and after multiple tests by her team, Andrea's name was officially added to the National Organ Transplant Registry list.

Andrea was admitted to YNHH on July 20, 2023 after a cardiac catheterization was performed and results showed that she was in a unique "heart failure" mode. As a result, she was moved up on the list while she became an integral part of her unit, being a "patient patient" for the next 8 weeks while the search for a perfect heart was initiated. When the time came, Andrea went into surgery filled with optimism, hope and confidence, but after many hours of work by her dedicated surgical team, it was not meant to be.

While growing up in Bloomfield and in her young adult, formative years, Andrea developed deep, long term friendships that remained through the years, even when there were some extended times of silence from either side.

After moving to Hebron with her parents, Andrea started to branch out on her own, searching for her own path and ultimately finding her long time, loving partner of 18+ years, David Nicholas. As the family welcomed David, everyone could see the love they shared while supporting each other in everything they did.

Through her 45 years, Andrea was a bright light to all she touched. Besides her family and cherished friends, she had an extraordinary love of music and was proud of her eclectic tastes, ranging from the Beatles to Blind Melon to Tori Amos to Phish and much more. She also loved listening to Janis Joplin, Pearl Jam and the Mighty Mighty Bosstones.

Besides David Nicholas, left to grieve Andrea's loss are her parents, Steve and Sue Rogers, her brother James "Jamie", sister in law Lauren (Lukowsky) Rogers and her beautiful nieces, Lillian and Josephine who were very special to their "Auntie", along with numerous loving cousins, extended families along with many near and dear friends.

Keeping with her wishes, Andrea's funeral services will be private. The family will plan a memorial service in the future.

Andrea came to my 5th grade play at the end of the school year last year. She was such a good babysitter always supporting me.

Andrea was my "after school nanny" for the past 10 years. I´m 11 now. I loved Andrea so much. My favorite thing to do with Andrea was to play Uno. One thing that she did that would always make me laugh was to say "ugh, Sprinkles!" after letting me cover my ice cream in a million sprinkles. I miss her very much.

I remember as kids on Brentwood Drive playing together. Our families were close even from the days when her grandmother was a live and treated us like we were her grandkids as well. RIP Andrea. Condolences to your entire family.

I remember spending time with Andrea in Norway. Us "kids" slept in beds on the floor and stayed up late and laughed together. Andrea, Jamie, my sister Natasha, and I explored the beaches around the fjords getting our boots stuck in the mud. My memories from that trip are so special to me and Andrea is in many of them. Sending you all so much love.

Andrea's sweet smile and gentleness of spirit was a gift to all who knew her. She was a couple of years older than me and I remember looking up to her as a child and having a lot of fun being silly together. Her lovable nature, courage, positive energy and audacious ability to laugh and go with the flow will be with me for the remainder of my time on earth.

To my dearest Susu and Steve, and to Jamie, and to David - my heart is forever broken. Andrea was the sweetest, quirkiest, funniest, and most unique person. I am so sorrowful and stricken by her loss. She will always be in our hearts.

Sue, Steve and Jamie...I am so sorry to hear this news. I don´t think I have seen Andrea in 30+ years but will always have fond, dear memories of our childhood times together. And always so much music- The Monkeys was the earliest I think. Andrea was a treasure. Sending all my love.

Andrea will be missed so very much. My favorite times when we were young spending time together during the summer. I thought Andrea was so much cooler then me, she had music posters and she knew so much about the bands. I can remember her introducing me to watching MTV and Guns N´ Roses "November Rain" and us laughing together. I will always think of her with a smile. She always will be remembered cool, strong, beautiful and funny.

Good ways, humourous ways.

This write up is beautiful in capturing Andrea. She and Dave showed such beauty together. They were funny and kind and so giving and inclusive. I loved watching how they just got each other. These were my first friends to ever have a signed toilet seat on their wall. Steven and I are sending all of you such love and may we all continue to spread the qualities Andrea demonstrated into this world!

It had been too long since I saw Darling Andrea. I did get to visit her in the weeks leading to her surgery. I learned a lesson that will last the rest of my life. The strength it took to get through every day especially in the last month of her life is what True Bravery is. You will live forever for me.

I was introduced to Annie by our mutual friend Melissa, back in 2005. And from the moment we met we both knew it was something special. We were together for just over 18 years and had just celebrated our 18th anniversary, even though she was in the hospital awaiting a new heart to become available. We never married, but we were in spirit and everything but the paper work and ceremonies. She was so easy to love, to fall in love with, and she so easily loved others she met. Whether it was friends, friends of friends, medical staff, or just strangers we'd come across in our day to day. Everyone found something to love about her and her about them. I will never forget her for as long as I live and even beyond that. I know many feel the same way. <3 <3 <3
