Andrew Booras Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Apr. 15 to Apr. 16, 2023.
Andrew "Skippy" Booras passed away peacefully on April 8, 2023 at his home in Dundee, IL. Skip was born on February 11, 1927 in Sioux City, Iowa to George and Vera nee Harvalis. Beloved husband to Elaine (Angie) nee Harris for 67 years. Loving father to James Booras, Georgi Ann Booras and Andrea (Scott) DiGilio. Proud Papa to Alyssa (Cameron) Wilmington and Brynn (Jacob) Romano. Great grandfather to Reagan and Taylor Wilmington. Preceded in death by his brothers, John (Bette) Booras, Richard (Geri) Booras, Samuel (Georgia) Booras. Sister Phyllis (Peter) Maggos. Sister-in-Law Marion (James) Theo. Fond Uncle to many nieces and nephews.

Skip was a founding father of St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church in Elgin, IL. The church was his second family. He loved it so much and was always willing to do whatever was needed. He held many Board positions over the years. Many local businessmen knew to watch out for him coming to their door, because he usually had raffle tickets in hand to sell for the annual Greekfest fundraiser.

Over Skip's lifetime he was the owner of the Paramount Coffee Co, in which he sold his award-winning Royal York coffee to many of the top restaurants in and around the Chicago area. He was also an owner of the Blue Moon Ballroom in Elgin, IL. The restaurant was known for holding Saturday night ballroom dancing, nationally known bands were also hosted there along with weddings, proms, meetings, Friday night fish fry, and so much more! He was recognized wherever he would go. Skip loved being around people and was always making sure everyone was happy. He was a loyal family member, friend and loyal to all his employees. He was greatly loved in return.

Skip was also known by children for his famous coin trick. Every young niece, nephew, or any child he encountered would be amazed by him for pulling a coin out of their ear. He was known as the magic man. He loved seeing their amazement.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at St. Sophia Greek Orthodox Church, 525 Church Road, Elgin, IL. Visitation from 9:30 - 11:00 AM at the church with Funeral to start at 11:00. Burial immediately following at River Valley Memorial Gardens, 14N689 Route 31, West Dundee, IL 60118.

Dear Aunt Angie

My sincere sympathy and much love to my cousins and my Uncles Granddaughters and great Granddaughters. This is so very sad for our entire Booras family. We loved our Uncle Skippy so very much. He will be fondly remembered for his happy go lucky ways.

With lots of love
