Andrew B. Dugo

To the Dugo family,my sincerest sympathies are with you. He is peacefully at rest now.

Uncle Andy...It was a great privilege to know you and love you...and be loved by you. I will always remember you as one of the very strong influences in my life. I credit you with my love of books. To have lived in the same house with you and Aunt Marie for so many years while growing up was a blessing. I have so many wonderful memories that will assure that you and Aunt Marie will never be forgotten. Love, Mary T.

Mr. Dugo was a great friend to my Father. My Dad enlisted in the Army at age 18 and was selected to train as an interpreter. He was sent to Georgetown to learn Italian where he met Mr. Dugo who befriended him. Given the difference in their ages Mr. Dugo acted as a surrogate big brother and protector to my Dad. Dugo, as my Dad called him, told me that my Father was so young and innocent and shared his love of sports. Daddy and Dugo remained close friends throughout the years. My Father thought the world of him and never forgot his kindness and friendship at such a defining period of his life. My Father passed away in 1998 and Dugo remembered Daddy fondly. It meant a great deal to my Mother and my sisters and brother. Mr. Dugo was a talented journalist (Daddy enjoyed reading his columns to us as kids) and a true role model for my Father. In later years, Dugo's curiosity sustained him. Knowing that I worked at the Naval Academy, he asked my Mother to find out why a statue of Tecumseh stood in the Academy yard. He enjoyed learning about the statue and wrote me a wonderful letter of thanks. I hope that this note offers happy memories to those who knew what a fine man Mr. Dugo was.

I enjoyed our talks when Roseanne and I came over to see you at the home. I never got to thank you for what you did for my father when he passed away, thank you Andy. You will be missed. Roseanne loves you (me you to) God Bless and Rest in Peace.

Andy was a great friend to the people in amateur and sandlot sports. He always worked to make sure the "little guys" got recognition in the paper. He was a classy gentleman and he will always be remembered fondly by several generations of Federation League baseball players.

I was so happy to see you for two weeks just this last May. I shall miss you so much. I'll miss our regular phone chats. I love you--(me you too).

Andy, you were one of the nicest people we have ever known. You never hesitated to help other people and always had something nice to say about everyone. We really enjoyed our visits with you and listening to your stories, while sharing a bottle of wine. You will be missed very much. We pray that you are enjoying your new home in heaven.
