Andrew Elrick Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 4, 2015.
ELRICK, Andrew Mearns "Andy"
(May 23rd, 1932 – May 3rd, 2015)
Born and raised in Aberdeen, Scotland, Andy left the Royal Air Force in 1953 and came to Oshawa to visit friends. He liked it so much he stayed, and quickly fell in with the rest of Oshawa's "Scottish mafia". He had jobs as a taxi driver, mailman, truck driver for the industrial disposal, dairy worker, and bartender at the then-upscale Genosha Hotel – requiring him to buy a tuxedo – before finding work as a painter at General Motors. He was introduced to a soccer teammate's niece, who also happened to be from Aberdeen, and later proposed to Mary the same night Hurricane Hazel hit Oshawa (which he always claimed was a "bloody omen"). Always in Andy's heart was his oldest daughter Karen and grandson Seany, both whom predeceased him. He died the year he and Mary would have celebrated their 60th anniversary together. Dad is lovingly remembered with a smile by daughter Julie and her husband John Driscoll; and by son and namesake Andrew. Andy, as they knew him, will always be missed and cherished by his grandchildren Ryan, Caitlin, Adam and Colin, and by his surviving siblings. "Scotty's" pranks will also be missed by everyone whose heels he painted at GM, whose food trucks he passed yelling "Fousty Chips", and by his golfing buddies and his Masonic brothers at Lebanon Lodge. In accordance with Andy's wishes no services are to take place. Arrangements entrusted to OSHAWA FUNERAL HOME, 847 King Street West (905-721-1234). In lieu of flowers, donations in Andy's memory to the Hospital for Sick Children would be appreciated.

Uncle Andy
The man who could walk into a room and with that smile would light up the room.
I was the lucky one to have known Andy as Uncle Andy and I will treasure all my wonderful memories of him.
Love you Agnes Howitt (Moniz)

Andy lived with my family when he came to Canada and slept on our sofa. I was only a little girl but Andy still liked to tease me. I was the flower girl in Andy and Mary's wedding. He was such a great person. Love to you all, Sugar

So sorry to hear this. I was Mary and Andy's flower girl in their wedding. Andy lived with us when I was little and called me Sugar. He always had a smile for everyone he met and loved to talk. He will be sadly missed. Love to you all. Liz (Patterson) Cullen
