Andrew Fung Obituary

FUNG, Andrew Chau-Ngan August 27, 1950 - May 14, 2011 Andrew Fung, beloved husband of Eliza Fung of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 14, 2011 at the age of 60 years. Andrew was born in Hong Kong, and moved to Canada as a teenager. He attended high school in Yorkton and Regina, Saskatchewan. In 1971, Andrew moved to Edmonton, Alberta, where he met his wife, Eliza. They settled in Calgary, Alberta, which has been their home for the past forty years and is the birthplace of their daughter, Andrea. Andrew took his family for a brief adventure to Burnaby, British Columbia, where they lived from 1991 to 1994. Andrew was an avid sportsman and he enjoyed playing badminton, basketball and golf. Andrew was a generous, caring and hardworking individual, who lived by example. He believed that every person should be treated with respect and kindness, and approached each challenge with patience and perseverance. Andrew courageously battled cancer since his diagnosis in 2008. He maintained a positive outlook throughout his battle, and his sense of humour and charming personality remained until his last moments. Andrew was a loving husband and father; he will be deeply missed by his family and all those who knew him. Andrew is survived by his wife Eliza Fung and their daughter Andrea Fung. A Memorial Service will be held at McINNIS & HOLLOWAY'S Chapel of the Bells (2720 Centre Street North) on Friday, May 20, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. Graveside Service will follow at Queen's Park Cemetery. Eliza and Andrea, There are many fond memories of shared laughs I have with Andrew while working together. I also had the fortune to play golf with him, and was thankful he turned looking for my lost balls into an adventure.
Our conversation would always circle back to family, and it was clear how proud he was of you two. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Some of my fondest memories of Andrew were sharing a meal late at night when we worked together at McElhanney. Andrew was a fantastic mentor to me in the early stages of my work career and I will cherish our chats, lunches and late nigh meals.
Eliza and Andrea, I am so sorry for your loss and wish you the confidence of knowing that Andrew is in a better place where is he no longer suffering
My thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of the family.

Eliza & Andrea,
What a treasure was your Andrew/Dad. I so much enjoyed our dinners/lunches and I, personally, will never forget our last lunch together when Andrew recounted his arrival in Canada. What a story ... and what a kind, peaceful, warm and lighthearted man he was but that doesn't begin to tell it all, does it? Our thoughts are with you at this sad time.

Dear Eliza,

We are utterly shocked and saddened to hear of the passing of Andrew. At this difficult time, there is absolutely nothing which can ease your pain of losing your loved one, but I believe Andrew is now in a place where there is no more suffering.

Eliza, please take good care of yourself. You must know that although we are not living in the same city, you and Andrea will always be in our thoughts and prayers.

May God bless you and your family.
May His Grace always shine upon you.

With deepest condolences,
