Born: March 12, 1914; in ChicagoDied: March 24, 2007; in St. CharlesHe was a diehard Cubs fanST. CHARLES - Andrew W. Garbacz, 93, of St. Charles and formerly of West Chicago, died Saturday, March 24, 2007, at Provena Pine View Care Center in St. Charles.He was born on March 12, 1914, in Chicago and resided in West Chicago for more than 50 years.Mr. Garbacz was a member of St. John the Baptist Church in Winfield, Young at Hearts Club, and past Grand Knight of the Father Gaffney Council 1555 Knights of Columbus.He was retired from General Mills and a diehard Chicago Cubs fan.Mr. Garbacz is survived by three children, Andrew J. (Carolyn) of Surprise, Ariz., Andrea (Terry) Bodine of Covington, Ind., and Al (Shirley) of St. Charles; eight grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and a sister-in-law, Josephine Jakala of Robbinsdale, Minn.He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne (Fuja), in 2001; a daughter, Nita Jarosz in 2002; and a grandson, Scott Garbacz, in 1997.The visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday, March 29, at Norris-Walen Funeral Home, 132 Fremont St., West Chicago. Funeral prayers will be at 9:15 a.m. Friday, March 30, at the funeral home and Mass will follow at 10 a.m. at St. John the Baptist Church in Winfield. I remember your Dad as being quietly supportive to each of the children and their friends. As I remember "the early years" he always took Anne and her friends to each others house. Your Dad and Mom certainly raised a great family, and that's certainly the best tribute! My condolences to each of you. Thinking of you, Anne.
