Andrew Jackson McLemore, Jr., 94, a lifelong resident of Montgomery, died in his home after a short illness on January 21, 2015. He was predeceased by his parents Andrew Jackson McLemore and Mary Ledyard Oliver McLemore, and his loving wife Joy McGlynn McLemore, and his brothers Thomas Oliver McLemore and William Henry McLemore, and his grandson William Oliver Rees. He is survived by his sisters-in-law Ruth Cook McLemore and Mignon McGlynn Watt. He is survived by his children Katherine McLemore Rees (David), Yvonne McLemore Williamson (McGowin), Andrew Jackson McLemore III (Dollene), Harold McGlynn McLemore (Linda), and Allen Brunson McLemore (Martha). He is survived by his grandchildren David Rees, Jr. (Paula), Tanner Munson (Matt), Andrea McLemore, Jackson McLemore IV (Nicole), Carrie Wiatt (Streeter), Ledyard Williamson, Sara Williamson, Katherine Williamson, Lillian McLemore, Molly McLemore, and many cousins and friends. He is survived by his great-grandchildren Katherine Rees, David Rees III, Anna Munson, Isabella Munson, Lorelai McLemore, Raegan Joy McLemore, and Charlotte Wiatt. Mr. McLemore was loving cared for by Mary Sanders, Deborah Lewis, and Sandy Harris.

Jack McLemore, Jr. was a 5th-generation cotton farmer on the family farm established in Mitylene about 1817. He graduated Sidney Lanier High School, and studied agricultural engineering at Alabama Polytechnic Institute (Auburn). His military service in WWII included the Battle of Peleliu, the re-capture of the Philippines, and the occupation of Japan. Upon his honorable discharge from the 81st Inf Div as a tech sergeant, he returned to Montgomery to farm cotton and raise cattle. He married the beautiful Huntington College student Joy McGlynn in 1947. He and his brothers Tom and Billy ran the cotton gin in Mitylene which became the last operating gin in Montgomery County. He was a real-estate developer, Board Chairman of St. James School, former Vestryman and past Senior Warden of St. John's Episcopal Church, and he was one of the founders of Arrowhead Golf and Country Club.

Pall bearers will be David Rees Jr., Ledyard Williamson, Jackson McLemore IV, Streeter Wiatt III, Matt Munson, Price McLemore III, Larry Underwood McLemore, and Christopher Daniel. Honorary pall bearers will be Jack Smith, Sam Butner, Raymond Boykin, Billy Meriwether, Price McLemore Jr., Larry Bear McLemore, and Tom McLemore Jr, Spears Rhodes, William McLemore Jr., Samuel McLemore, James McLemore, Charles McLemore, Mac Walker, and William Oliver Jr.

The burial service will be held at 10 am, Monday, January 26, at St. John's Episcopal Church. Interment will follow at Greenwood Cemetery, Rev. Robert Wisnewski officiating. The family will receive friends in the Parrish Hall at 9 am. For memorials, contributions may be made to the Mary Oliver McLemore Scholarship Fund at St. John's Episcopal Church, or to your favorite charity.
