Andrew Axel Saunders Jr.

Cincinnati - Andy Saunders of Cincinnati, Ohio passed away on the 3rd of June, 2018 at the age of 87. A native of St. Petersburg, Florida, Andy attended the United States Coast Guard Academy and graduated from Georgia Tech in 1957 with a Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering. He served in the US Army from May 1951 through December 1956 and was a First Lieutenant in Korea with the Army Corps of Engineers. He is preceded in death by his father, Andrew A. Saunders; mother, Rachel Elizabeth Baker Saunders; and sister, Sylvia Olga Saunders Thompson. Andy is survived by his beloved wife of almost 63 years, Reba Cole Saunders of Carnesville, Georgia; son, Stephen Michael Saunders of Long Beach, California; and daughter, Cynthia Marie Saunders of Annapolis, Maryland. Numerous other relatives include his brother Michael Conrad Saunders and sister-in-law Rosalie Jenson of Dahlonega, Georgia; brother-in-law Ira Tate Cole of Douglasville, Georgia; sister-in-law Clidie Sue Voyles of Carnesville, Georgia, and numerous nieces and nephews including Michelle Thompson Hall, Danny Thompson and David Thompson of Atlanta, Georgia; Melanie Thompson McAllister of Louisville, Kentucky; Janet Voyles Callahan of Carnesville, Georgia and Stephanie Elizabeth Winn of Douglasville, Georgia as well as Gerald and Kenny Voyles of Carnesville, Georgia and Sonya Strickland of Atlanta, Georgia. Andy had a successful career at General Electric Aircraft Engines of Cincinnati, Ohio from July 1957 through April 1991 specializing in engine control systems as an engineer and manager. A life celebration will occur at Spring Grove Funeral Home ( 4389 Spring Grove Ave. Cincinnati, Ohio 45223) on June 30th with a 10 AM visitation, 11 AM celebration with reception and luncheon to follow.
