Andrew Bates Schrader was born on December 18, 1969, and began his life in Manhattan, where the early pulse of the city shaped his childhood. He attended P.S. 6 in the Village, commuting on his own by subway from the Upper West Side—an early sign of the independence, confidence, and self-reliance that would define him throughout his life.
He later moved on to Westtown School through 1987, completing his senior year at The Episcopal Academy. He went on to graduate from Davidson College in 1992 with a Bachelor of Arts in Liberal Arts and Sciences. A member of Sigma Alpha Epsilon, he cultivated the humor, warmth, and ease of connection that would become trademarks of his life.
Andrew’s professional journey reflected both curiosity and vision. He began in real estate with Dewberry in Atlanta and later worked alongside Thomas Ravenel in Charleston. His career then expanded into telecommunications and technology, with roles at WorldCom and later at AppRiver in Gulf Breeze, Florida, where he contributed to the company during its formative years.
As he grew professionally, he developed a keen instinct for real estate acquisition—able to spot potential, elevate properties, and guide renovations with a sharp design mind and a commitment to excellence.
To know Andrew was to experience the world in wider color. He was generous, adventurous, highly creative, and imaginative, with a love for fine food and wine, travel, nature, and the joy of bringing people together.
Hosting came naturally to him; his warmth and attentiveness made people feel seen and welcomed. He was well read, thoughtful, wise, and deeply supportive—a magnet for remarkable friends who cherished his presence.
Andrew moved through life with an athletic, spirited connection to the outdoors. He found joy on the water—sailing competitively in his youth and later boating, swimming, kayaking, and staying active in any way that kept him close to the elements. He also loved hiking to beautiful and far-flung destinations, seeking out sweeping views and the quiet thrill of discovery.
Golf was another meaningful pursuit, one he approached with natural talent and dedication, and he took pride in placing in the 2025 Lake Toxaway finals.
Andrew is survived by his father, John-Paul Schrader; his mother, Wendy Stabler; and his stepfather, Johnathan Stabler. They, along with the many people whose lives he touched, carry forward the light of his spirit.
