Andrew Smith Jr.

Andrew Smith Jr. was born on July 25, 1946, to the late Andrew Smith Sr. and Elma Smith in Parkins, Arkansas. His childhood was spent in Arkansas, where he grew up and graduated from Central High School. After graduation, he served in the United States Army in the Vietnam War as a Switchboard Operator and a Sharpshooter (rifle). He was married to Mary E. Mosley on November 25, 1967. He worked at Simons when he first arrived in Gary. He also worked at Inland Steel and Screw and Bolts.

To the union of his marriage, four children were born. Andrew Smith III preceded him in death, along with daughter Geathro Smith and sons Danille L. Smith and Andre Smith.

He will truly be missed. He had a great sense of humor and loved life.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving wife, Mary E. Smith; two sons, Danille L. Smith of Gary and André Smith of Indianapolis; and one daughter, Geathro Smith of Birmingham, AL. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Tatiana Perry of Birmingham, AL; Delajywon and Darishad of Allentown, PA; Denzel Smith of Evansville, IN; Gregory McCloud III of Gary, IN; and Christian and Caden Smith of Indianapolis, IN. Additionally, he leaves behind five great-grandchildren: E'Hani, Alaric, and Sayori, all of Birmingham; and Denzel Jr. and Dez'Ariyah of Evansville, IN.

He is also survived by one brother, Freddie L. Smith of Chicago, IL. He was preceded in death by four siblings: Rose L. Brooks, Ruby Smith, Ida Smith of Chicago, and Inez Collins of Coahoma, MS.

He also leaves behind four sisters-in-law: Alberta and Deloris Mosley, Bobbie Pruitt, all of Gary, IN, and Gloria Mosley-Foster of Birmingham, AL.
