Ester and family: I have been working on the Family Tree today and was very surprised and shocked to find information on Al's passing, especially today as it is Johnny Paterson's birthday. We found many pictures you had sent John during all of your travels. He and John were so good friends as well as cousins. I know we appreciated having you both in Hawai while Kevin was going to Hawaii Pacific and had looked forward to meeting you both but we never got there since Kev came home ill. Our thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. Take care. Marg and Duncan McGill, Burlington, Ontario

Lyall, my mom, Rhoda Hazen Bailey, talked about you all the time because your birthdays were so close together. She told us of the fun she had with you and your wife in Hawaii. You were very special to her. I met you at a family reunion in Portland, Oregon. I remember what a nice man you were. God be with you, Kathy Bailey Jewell

Dear Esther and Cousins,

A fond Aloha to Al from Donna and me. We are thinking back to visiting you in August, how Al had taken us on a tour of the base and how you both told us delightful stories of your early years together.

'Al & Esther' has been one person in by mind since I was a child. And 'Al & Esther' will always be an item in the sweetest sense as timeless as the ocean around your beautiful life in Hawaii.

As sorry as we are to learn of Al's passing, we are glad you took us to one of your favorite restaurants near Kailua that day and happy for all the memories of Al.

We have a picture that Tamara took of all of us in front of your home in Kailua that we will try to forward.

Love Paul and Donna

Dear Esther and Tamara –

Just arrived back from our trip to Mexico and have been thinking of you all week. And especially today as I so wish we could be out there this afternoon for Al's memorial service today. I hope you know that we are there in spirit and I hope you can feel all the love and hugs we are and have been sending your way. Tamara, I got your email from my sister linda and hope you don't mind me including you here. Esther, was so very very relieved and appreciative that we were able to connect by phone before we left last weekend. I was so relieved to touch voices with you. Thank you for getting in touch. You are so very very special to me and am sending you all of our love. Paul's too. Just wanted to check in and will call and email again soon. Am holding you close in heart. I love you.

Love, janet (and paul)

I have so many good memories of both you, Esther, and A L - whether at KUMC, or on the beach on as Saturday morning, or on our (or your) lanai, or having dinner at the Marine Corps Air Station, or at Haiku Gardens or... Times of laughter, fun, as well as just being together. My prayers are with you Esther and the kids and grandkids at this difficult time.

I always enjoyed my conversations with AL as a boy at KUMC from 1963-66 when our familes would get together for dinner at our respective homes on Kainui Dr. and Laiki Pl. It was also nice to get to know him as an adult after my parents moved to Namala Pl. in 1972. He was a great man.
