Andrew Zeitlin Obituary
A proud alumnus of the University of Pennsylvania, Andrew dedicated over 50 years to the MITRE Corporation, where he was widely regarded as one of the fathers of TCAS, the Traffic Alert and Collision Avoidance System-a cornerstone safety technology now found on all aircraft.
During his storied tenure at MITRE, Andy led or was involved in every groundbreaking project, technology, and capability Center for Advanced Aviation System Development (CAASD) developed in partnership with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). He had many admirers across MITRE, the FAA, and the aviation community of professionals he represented and served.
His innovative work has played a crucial role in enhancing the safety of air travel worldwide. He leaves behind a legacy that serves as the foundation for the technologies being created today and those yet to come.
In addition to his long and successful career, Andy had an unmatched devotion to his wife of over fifty years, Elaine. He and Elaine met while attending the University of Pennsylvania, where he graduated cum laude with a degree in electrical engineering. He would go on to earn a master's in electrical engineering from New York University and a Doctorate of Science from George Washington University.
Andy faced every challenge in life with admirable strength and courage. Andrew's personal life was filled with joy and love, surrounded by his family: his wife Elaine; daughters, Beth and Samantha; son-in-law Ronnie; and grandchildren, Fiona, Aaron, and Elliot. His passion for travel inspired countless adventures with his wife Elaine.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in memory of Andrew can be made to The Leukemia And Lymphoma Society. This cause was close to his heart, reflecting his lifelong commitment to making a difference not only through his exceptional career in revolutionizing aviation safety, but also in his personal endeavors to support others.
