Angela Maguire (nee Walsh) Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 29, 2024.
When Angela Maguire celebrated her 92nd birthday just weeks ago on St. Patrick's Day, she marked the day with a fun family outing complete with the stirring tunes of bagpipes, the chorus of "Happy Birthday" sung to her by everyone in her presence and traditional Irish fare. Known for her lively, adventuresome spirit, she was always up for an outing. Angela often asked, "What are we doing for the rest of the day?" just when the day's activities had concluded.

On April 28, 2024, Angela departed this world peacefully, surrounded by loving family. She reunites in eternity with her infant son, John, and all seven of her siblings.

Left to cherish her memory are her beloved husband of 62 years, Patrick, along with their four children and nine grandchildren; Greg Maguire (Cynthia Whyte) Las Vegas, NV; Neil Maguire (Sue) and children Erin, Sean and Tate, (Los Gatos, CA); Michael Maguire(significant other, Deanna Pouliot) and his daughters Zoe and Sasha (Lovell, ME) and daughter Fiona Maguire-O'Shea (Aidan O'Shea) and sons, Seamus, Kieran, Ronan and Declan of Centennial, CO. Additionally, Angela is survived by numerous nieces, nephews and cousins whose love and support enriched her life beyond measure.

Angela Walsh was born on March 17, 1932, in Knockgloss, Ballinrobe, County Mayo, Ireland. Despite facing the absence of her mother throughout much of her life to guide her, in her family's eyes, she was "the perfect mother," a testament to her nurturing spirit.

Separated from her mother due to her mother's tuberculosis diagnosis at the age of five, Angela was raised alongside her sister Brenda by their aunts on the family farm. She developed a love for the outdoors; tending to chickens and cows and relishing the daily three-and-a-half-mile trek to school.

At around the age of 20, she followed her sister to Galway City, to pursue nursing, eventually graduating as a registered nurse and midwife. Angela's dedication and skill were recognized when she achieved first place nationwide in the midwifery exam, earning her a prestigious gold medal. Her nursing career led her to Dundalk, County Louth, where she was introduced to her future husband, Patrick Maguire, on a blind date arranged by her soon-to-be sister-in-law, Kay.

In 1962, Angela and Patrick exchanged vows in Blackrock, County Louth, before immigrating to the U.S. in 1964 and settling in New Jersey. While Patrick worked at the GM automotive plant in Clark, NJ, Angela pursued her nursing career at a local hospital. Over the years, their family grew to include three sons and a daughter. They fostered a deep connection to their Irish roots through frequent visits to Ireland.

After two decades in Cranford, NJ, the family relocated to Adrian, Michigan, where they resided for 35 years before moving to Colorado in September 2017 to be closer to family.

Angela remained unwavering in her Catholic faith throughout her life, actively participating in church committees and the Right to Life Movement, both politically and by attending several Right to Life marches in Washington D.C.

Her faith and family were the cornerstones of her existence, as evidenced by her reassuring refrain, "Don't worry; you're not supposed to. God will take care of everything."

True to her heritage, she was an active member of the Ladies Ancient Order of Hibernians (LAOH) Division in Rahway, NJ, having held the presidency for a 4-year term. Later in Adrian, she helped form the LAOH Our Lady of Knock Division in 1987. Following her move to Colorado, she joined the Denver Division.

In her leisure time, Angela and her husband enjoyed traveling and touring across the continents of North America, Europe and Asia.

Visitation for Angela will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024, from 3.30-7.30 pm with a rosary and prayer service at 5.30 pm at Olinger Chapel Hill Funeral Home, located at 6601 South Colorado Blvd., Centennial, CO. A Celebration of Life Mass will be held on Tuesday, May 7, 2024, at 11 am at St. Thomas More Catholic Church, 8035 S Quebec St. in Centennial, followed by Christian burial at Chapel Hill Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Angela's honor to support Bloom Hospice at https://donate.stripe.com/8wM5lV7yqbTOgaQ6oo or the National Right to Life Committee c/o Development Department, 1446 Duke St., Alexandria, VA 22314 or online at https://secure.anedot.com/nrlc/donate.

Fiona, Greg, Michael, Neil, and Mr. Maguire, I am saddened to hear of your mom's passing. She was a beautiful person. I will never forget her charm, her Irish brogue, the care she took of each of you and the example she set for all of us. I wish you comfort and peace in your mourning and joy in celebrating her life.

Eternal rest grant unto Angela, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and all the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
Amen.

Love,
Lavinia Lee Mears

My deepest sympathies to Patrick, Fiona and their families. I am a neighbor of Fiona and Aidan´s and had the pleasure of attending many of their parties. Angela and Patrick attended most of these parties and were certainly lively to be around. Angela always had a sparkle in her eye and could at any time break out into a Gaelic song or if Patrick teased her would say "I´m going to trade you in" and we would all laugh. Her sense of humor, kindness and wit will be greatly missed! She was a fine lady.
