Richard Miller Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Nov. 14, 2016.
Richard Clayton Miller went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on November 10th, 2016, at the age of 66 after fighting stage four cancer.

He was preceded by his wife of 46 years, Kathleen Ann Miller, and his father, Clayton Louis Miller, both of New Braunfels, Texas. Kathy was the love of his life, and he joined her on her birthday and legendary House-Cleaning Thursdays. Richard is survived by his two devoted daughters, Brenda Miller Pieper (husband William) and Rebecca Miller Thummel (husband Stan), and his beloved granddaughters Jordan and Paige Pieper. Richard also leaves behind his mother, Blanche Miller Krammer of New Braunfels, his sister Cheryl Acuna of Henderson, Nevada (husband Michael), his brother David Miller of Richmond, Texas (wife Ila), his brother Jim Miller of Monticello, Illinois (wife Deborah), his brother Robert Miller of Spring Hill, Tennessee (wife Marceline), his sister Debra Dorr of Austin, Minnesota, his brother Michael Miller of Sioux Falls, South Dakota (wife Jill), and numerous nieces and nephews.

Richard Miller was born in Austin, Minnesota on December 2nd, 1949. He graduated from Austin High School, in Austin, Minnesota in 1967. Richard served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War. After the military, Richard established a career with Puffer-Sweiven working on industrial gas and oil control systems all over the world and eventually moved to the sales department in New Braunfels, Texas. Richard retired from Puffer-Sweiven fifteen years ago and spent his retirement doing Kingdom Work for Jesus Christ. When his wife Kathy became ill, he spent all of his time caring for and serving her during her yearlong battle with cancer. During this time, he was an inspiration to us all and an example of a true Biblical husband.

Richard’s true calling was always bringing people closer to our Savior and he exemplified his love for the Lord in every area of life. A common memory of friends and family is of Richard guiding them through difficult times by pointing them to the Bible and to the grace and power of the Lord. He helped establish and also served as a deacon at Southwest Calvary Baptist Church in Houston, Texas. After moving to New Braunfels, he continued serving Christ by always helping those in need at First Baptist Church of New Braunfels. He would often be found serving as a deacon, church member, and dear friend. He led many Bible study classes, taught Sunday school, and was always ready to listen to anyone who needed a friendly ear. During those conversations, he made it clear that true peace and comfort could only be found in the Word of the Lord. He would also help church members, neighbors, and friends with various home or computer repairs or by providing oil changes and other automotive services. He was a fantastic example of Christ's love to all who knew him, and had been a huge part of everyone’s personal walk with God.

Thank you for teaching and showing us all how to deal with life and how to grow nearer to God. Everyone will miss you, but we all know we will see you again. By the way, your brothers have been eating all your Paydays and Cupcakes, which is still not a meal.

A celebration of Richard’s life will be held at 10 a.m. November 19, 2016, at First Baptist Church of New Braunfels, 733 Cross Street in New Braunfels, Texas.

Richard and his family request that instead of flowers, a memorial contribution be made to First Baptist Church that will be divided among the missionaries he supported, the benevolence fund, and Hope Hospice.

So grateful to have been in his Sunday School class; also for the time he rescued me when I had a flat and needed to go to the tire store (in the rain) and the time he came and worked with all the guys from church on our roof, when Al was sick. I know he encouraged Albert often during that time. I will miss him. But we all know he is happy with his Jesus.

I loved both Dick and Kathy, they provided me with guidance and inspiration since I first met them. I feel fortunate to have known them.
