Angelo Petropoulos

Angelo Petropoulos, 88, of Springfield, MA, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2016 in East Longmeadow in the home of his daughter and son-in-law, surrounded by loving family. Angelo was born in Koroni, Messinia, Greece on March 6, 1928 to the late George and Anthi Petropoulos. He grew up with his brothers: Demetri, Niko, Theodoros, Pandelis, Panagiotis, and his care-giving sister, Constantina Maheras. He was part of the Greek Army and came to the United States with four dollars in his pocket and a small suitcase in efforts to establish a home with his wife Stella, which he was married to for 41 years, who passed away on September 26, 1996. He lived in Springfield with Stella and his daughter Anthi Petropoulos Quatrano and son George Petropoulos. He worked multiple jobs to support his family and never let himself rest if it meant providing for his loved ones. He was a long time employee of Hood, Inc. in Agawam, MA. Even in his retirement, he never stopped working, whether it was a project around the house or keeping up his immaculate lawn by never letting a leaf fall, he always kept himself busy. He was always willing to help anyone in need at the drop of a hat. His family and friends always enjoyed his sense of humor and infectious laughter, especially his morning daily coffee crew. He was an active member of St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, serving on the church council and working every year at the Greek Glendi. He watched the children of Anthi and Paul Quatrano; Annette Quatrano Gour and Stella Quatrano Rivers, as well as the children of George and Christina Barch Petropoulos; Christopher and Athena Petropoulos and helped in their upbringing. He taught his family the Greek culture though Greek music, dancing, and food. He was a loving, caring, and kind hearted father and grandfather. He loved his family so much and did everything he could to support them. He continued to help his married grandchildren prior to his death as they lived with him while getting ready for starter homes and enjoyed Anthi and Paul's daughters and their husbands; Matthew Thomas Gour and Keith John Rivers. He was a man with great pride, a hard work ethic, and a genuine decent human being. Our Greek patriarch will be sorely missed by all and his memory will be held in our hearts forever. Funeral services for Angelo will be held on Friday, November 18, 2016 beginning at 8:15am from Hafey Funeral Home, 494 Belmont Ave., Springfield, MA with a Liturgy of an Orthodox Burial to commence at 9:30am at St. George Greek Orthodox Cathedral, 22 St. George Rd., Springfield, MA 01104. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Cemetery, Springfield, MA. Visiting hours will be from 4-8pm on Thursday, November 17th at Hafey Funeral Home.
