Carol
School days blend but special friends and the memories we have with them have a strong hold on our hearts forever.
We share those kind of bonds and I want you and your brothers to know how deeply sorry Rick and I are over the loss of your dad.
We were away at the time and unable to pay our respects.
I was moved by the stories of your dad making house calls at all hours. I remember as a child him coming to our house too.
One call I will never forget though was the one you made Carol, to your dad well after midnight when all of the girls were having a mini reunion at our friend Tina Adreon's house.
While we where busy yacking inside for hours,
the snow was busy piling up outside in inches.
Your dad came out in that snowstorm and drove each and every one of us home, making sure we were all safe and sound that night.XOXO.He sure was a one Special Dad and I will miss him for many reasons.

With love to you all and
Respect to the families always,

Theresa, Tony, Sammy,
The Runcos and Balsamicos shared cousins and compes and a love for each other in a quiet just kind of knowing way for many years.
Rick and I were away when Dr. Runco passed away and unable to pay our respects at the time.
Please know we are truely sorry and share in your loss and grief.
"Ange" as my dad would call him was wonderful to everyone in my entire family-----my grandparents, parents,
brothers, aunts, uncles, cousins and me and we all loved him and appreciated him very much. We will miss him very much.

With love to you all and
Respect to the families always,

The Runco family... three words that mean so much to me.
Time stood still for me yesterday as I learned the news of Dr. Runco's passing.
Thank you Mrs. Runco for making sure I knew.
As you talked and I listened I was reminded of just how many layers and levels of connections our families have shared through the years.
In that moment and now I am washed over with emotion thinking of Dr. Runco and you, his passing, and our families.
My heart feels sadness as I share in your family's loss, sorrow as I realize this very special man is no longer with us here on earth, hope as I am uplifted by the faith that we share, and after great reflection joy in the knowledge of God's promise of Eternal Life and his master plan that one day we will all be together again.
Rick and I were away at the time and unable to pay our respects. Please know how deeply sorry we are.
Dr. Angelo S. Runco will be fondly remembered and greatly missed.
My wish for the Runco family is that your hearts can be lightened knowing that your grief is shared by many.

With love to you all and
Respect to the families always,

Dr. Runco was the best! I remember many house calls he made to our house to check on my sisters and me. He was the most gentle and patient doctor. I remember him speaking to my mom in Italian and even then he conveyed the same wonderful compassion and warmth. I sought him out to care for our children but he referred me to a practice very close to our home because he
knew the distance to his office would be
too great in an emergency. I saw him several years ago at the Opera and he easily remembered our family, inquiring about each of us, by name!
I have a daughter in medical school who is
considering pediatrics and I often tell her about my experiences with Dr. Runco. He has
left a wonderful mark on the world. Now may he rest in well deserved peace.

I extend my sympathy to the family of Dr. Runco, who was the best pediatrician in the entire world. My daughter is now 26 years old, and I remember having to call him at 2: am when she was just 3 months old. He was so patient and kind. He treated me like a family member. There will never be someone as wonderful as Dr. Runco.

How lucky we were that Dr. Runco was rounding on newborns at Shadyside Hospital the day our son was born in 1998! Our baby appeared to be perfectly healthy, but Dr. Runco patiently and persistently listened to my son's chest while our little one wailed loudly and refused to lie still. Finally, Dr. Runco declared he heard a "squeak" in our son's heart and called a fetal/neonatal cardiologist friend from AGH to call on us later that day. Dr. Runco's complete focus on fully examining our son provided the proper frame for recognition, diagnosis, and treatment of the heart-failure related problems that were soon to arise. A cardiologist at Children's Hospital, who was impressed that such a subtle sign would be detected on a standard newborn exam, was not surprised when he heard Dr. Runco was the doctor who made the initial discovery. The cardiologist explained that Dr. Runco had a special interest in cardiology and that he could actually be a cardiology specialist, should he choose to be.
Many thanks to Dr. Runco's family for allowing him to, so generously and completely, share his gifts to care for God's children here on Earth. As we enjoy the company of our now 16 year old son, we offer our condolences and prayers for your comfort on the loss of your husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend.

I extend my love and sympathy to the Runco family upon the death, of Ange, Dr. Runco, our next door neighbor and our children's pediatrician. I always felt so secure about my children's health having Ange as both my pediatrician and neighbor. I knew he would be over quickly if needed. His house calls brought a sense of calm over everything. From our vantage as next door neighbors, we saw his comings and goings from long hours at his practice and hospitals. His morning call hour was a part of of his long day where he gave anxious mothers even more of his time. As our chlldren are now grown, we will miss him deeply as our neighbor, meeting outside as we take out the trash on Sunday nights or while walking our dogs. He has been an important fixture on our street, and will be sorely missed.

Dear Runco Family:
Dr. Runco was a wonderful pediatrician. Even though it has been many a year since he was my doctor, I have good memories of his taking excellent care of me. My mother sang praises about him as a pediatrician. I consider myself very lucky to have been one of his patients. Thank you for sharing him with us.

May 28, 2015

Dear Runco Family,
I am very sorry to hear about the passing of Dr. Runco and sharing in your sadness as I learn of this news just this morning.
Dr. Runco was without question the gold standard when it came to pediatric care for my 3 children. I continue to refer to him, his incredibly kind nature and his unique and personal attention to his patients to this day. There was no one like him when it came to the care of children. How he connected with parents and patients was beyond remarkable. From my first experience as a new mother through the birth of 3 children, he aided in moving them into a healthy young adulthood and was always there for us. I especially appreciated the fact that if needed, I could call Dr. Runco personally everyday!

We enjoyed so many conversations not only regarding my children's health but on our extended families, gardening and education. I truly felt he was a part of our family with an honest and heartfelt connection with each encounter.

I still keep a note he wrote to me after the birth of our last child, Nina. After delivery, I needed to have a minor surgical procedure so I was not available to see him when he came to examine her. The note said: "Mrs. Scolieri-Wonderful job....Nina is healthy and absolutely perfect in everyway". The comfort and compassion in those words was truly moving....I have it in my daughter's keepsake box to this day!

His memory will continue to live on in ours and our children's lives......our heartfelt sympathies to each of you,

The Scolieri Family,
Philip, Margaret, Paul, Alexandra and Nina

Dr Runco made one of his famous house calls over 50 yrs ago and saved my baby sister's life. He diagnosed a tumor that turned out to be cancer. Years later when I had children of my own there was no one else I would have as their pediatricuan. He had a special talent for calming new mothers.. Dr Runco was an incredible pediatrician and a wonderful man. I will never forget him. My sincere sympathies to his family.

Dr. Runco was my family's pediatrician. I remember him speaking Italian to my mom and making house calls. He was helpful and comforting to so many young immigrant Italian mothers. He was also the pediatrician for my two sons (now ages 12 and 21). He was wise, kind and extremely patient. He saw us through many difficulties and milestones. He was truly an extraordinary man and he will be missed by all of us. Our condolences to his family.

Dr. Runco was always just a super human being! I reflect now on just how easy going and tolerant he was of the antics of his children and his children's friends, that's a lot of kids running around all of the time! He was also very kind and generous. I reflect especially and most warmly on the many trips I was a part of with Mark Runco, my brother Pete and any other rug rat who tagged along to go to "The Land" to ride motorcycles off road in Butler, PA. I always enjoyed sitting up front in "the shot gun" position in the car and chatting with Dr. Runco for the hour ride out & back. I am sure he is in good hands by God! My sincerest & heartfelt condolence to the Runco Family and anyone whose life he touched

When my child was born he had what looked like a thick skin tag atop his head. The doctor on-call said they will tie it off at the scalp and it will drop off in a few weeks. I told him not to do anything until our Dr. Runco examines the baby. Thank God for Dr. Runco. He was a wise wise doctor. He came in to my hospital room after the examination and sat on the side of the bed, and explained to us, that this wasn't an ordinary skin tag. He right away ordered an MRI of the brain and soon after he came in with the results and told me my newborn had to have neurosurgery. It was a tumor that had ruptured partly during childbirth thru the soft spot of the skull. The neurosurgeon said that Dr. Runco saved my son this type of invasive tumor. He said if the skull would have closed over this tumor it would have continued to grow downward into the brain, and we wouldn't have known it was there until the baby would have some deficits and symptoms. Today I could say my son is a healthy 25 year old who is a graduate of Penn State and is an engineer today.
We owe so much to this gentle man. A man from Whom God sent to protect and keep his children healthy.

God Blessed us for having him. My prayers go out to his family.

Dr. Runco truly saved my daughter Ilona Grenzig's life. When she was having a horrible allergic attack, he met us a Children's Hospital and took her in his arms and actually cried. We love him and remain eternally grateful to him. May your family be comforted in the fact that he was loved by all whom he met and his care and friendship were treasured by all. May he rest in peace. Amen.

My Mom had worked at Magee for many years and knew all the good pediatricians. When my daughter's pediatrician, Dr Rita Rosini (recently deceased) retired, I asked Mom who she would recommend and without a hesitation said Dr Runco's name. What a joy he was ! With that winning smile of his I always felt very comfortable in taking my daughter to see him. He always took his time and made my daughter and I both feel at ease. The last time we saw him he filled out her driver's license application papers, looked up at her and said when he had to stand on a stepstool to look into his patient's eyes it was time for them to move on. I felt a wave of sadness knowing he was right. My daughter now is married and with two children of her own. Having been to one of the pediatricians with one of my grandkids they see I found myself hoping someone out there would learn from doctors like Dr Runco - take your time and listen.

God has a new angel with Angelo Runco.

May 25, 2015

Dr. Runco was my sons' ( now 25, 30) pediatrician. He was wise, calming, funny and helped this new mom feel confidant so I could be a better parent. They wanted to see him until college and did. He was a real treasure and I'm grateful to him. And thanks to his family for sharing him, he took his own call and was so available. Sympathy to all of his family especially his wife Marge whom he spoke so proudly about.

Doctor Runco was the kindest pediatrician a kid could ever have, and a wonderful neighbor. Many times he came to our house in the evening if my little brother or I were sick, and he always told my parents it was never a bother, never any trouble, because he was a doctor and that's what he did. Every Halloween he and his wife dressed as circus clowns to pass out candy from their front porch, and all of us kids, not knowing who they really were behind the makeup and costumes, were amazed that these colorful clowns somehow knew our names. I have many fond memories of him, and offer my deepest sympathies to the Runco family for the passing of a truly wonderful man.

If a man is honest with others and with himself ... If he receives gratefully and gives quietly. If he is gentle to feel and strong enough to show his feelings If he is slow to see the faults of others but quick to discover their goodnessIf he is cheerful in difficult times and modest in success If he does his best to be true to his beliefs THEN he is truly an admirable man. That was my Godfather Dr. Runco.
