Angus M. MacQueen, Jr, 77, of Simpsonville, SC passed away peacefully at his home on November 16, 2023, after a bravely fought battle with cancer. He was under the care of his family and hospice.

Born to the late Dr. Angus and Ruth MacQueen, Gus grew up in Gouverneur making many lifelong friends. He graduated from Gouverneur High School and continued his education at Erskine College, SC earning his degree in 1968.

Serving his country in the Air Force during the Vietnam era, he was stationed at Hancock Field, Syracuse, NY, Thule, Greenland, and McCord Air Force Base in Tacoma, Washington. His time in the military was a source of pride.

An avid hunter and fisherman, Gus spent many years on the Oswegatchie and St. Lawrence Rivers. He was a long-standing member of the Dry Timber Lake Hunting Club in the Adirondacks where he spent much time hunting, fishing and enjoying the friendships of members and guests.

Gus loved the Caribbean and went there often. Activities involved sport fishing with his dad and friends as well as vacations spent walking the beaches and exploring the many islands. There were also trips that involved living on a boat travelling to different islands and adventures.

He is survived by his wife, Wanda MacQueen, daughter Jill Marble (Andrew), Sackets Harbor, NY, sons Andrew, Golden, CO and Brian (Patricia), Eagleville, TN. He is also survived by his brother Doug (Linda), Potsdam, NY and sister Tammy Farrell (Dale) of Syracuse, NY as well as 5 grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Gus MacQueen's life was one of adventure, camaraderie, and a celebration of the simple joys that make life extraordinary. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those that knew him, and his memory will forever be a source of inspiration, smiles and warmth. Many people that knew Gus were aware there was never a party he didn't like and that he lived by the mantra "You only go around once, so do it with gusto."

A graveside service will be held at Fairview Cemetery in Rodman, NY in the spring.
