I'm sorry for the loss of Anita. I miss her. The people at the Harrisonburg Day Program miss her.

I provided childcare for Anita (Nene) and Rita when they were young. They were siblings to my children and in those days we stacked kids on other kids. Nene's kid was Taja (my daughter and her sister). She took her responsibility quite seriously, making sure Taja sat quietly on her lap, while she wrapped her in her arms. I would pack up my station wagon and off to the Parks we would go. One of their favorite spots was City Park in Rawley Springs. As a way to conquer her fear of heights, I tried to get Nene to cross the swinging bridge across the river that ran through the park. Nene loved jewelry and I tried to bribe her with a pair of sparkly diamond stud earrings. That child was stubborn and those earring were no match for a rushing river beneath her feet. That was many years ago, but I can still see her jaw set when she decided "No way" to my attempt to get her on the bridge. What great times we had there. I remember them with love and longing. To Terri and all the siblings, Nene was your big sister by birth and by her stature, but in my heart she will always be that little girl that taught my first born to tie her shoes.
