Anita Trautmann Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jul. 29 to Aug. 1, 2023.
Anita St. Louis Hilda Trautmann Anita Hilda Trautmann (nee Roesener), a devoted and loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and dear friend to many, passed away peacefully and with grace on Friday, July 28, 2023 at age 99. She is survived by her children, Rebecca, Claudia (Theodore Christner), Robert (Debra), Sylvia Rogers (Mark), and Alan; her grandchildren Leila Erskine, Adrienne Nash (Matthew), Jonah (Arielle), Naomi (Calvin Elmore), Micah (Kiara), Hannah, and Tess Rogers; and her great grandchildren Clara and Julian.

Anita was born in 1923 in New Palestine, Indiana to Edward and Hilda Roesener. She and her beloved husband, Rev. Robert Trautmann, who passed away in 2005, spent 20 years in South India as missionaries and boarding parents to children of missionaries studying in the small hill station of Kodaikanal. The stories, oh the stories she would tell. Stories about her early years in newly independent India, and stories about the later years as a mother to dozens of children who passed through her care. And she would laugh through the telling and remembering of the challenges, successes, and wildly entertaining experiences as a young wife and mother of five in a strange land so unlike the Midwest farm life in which she was raised. Her laughter and those stories are now our memories too.

After returning to the United States in 1968, Anita managed the offices of several St. Louis medical practices until her retirement in--we are actually uncertain when that was because she kept retiring and then going back to work. In her delightfully mischievous way and with a twinkle in her fading eyes, she admitted that once she turned 97 she was finally ready "officially" to retire. She stayed actively involved in church and community life, participating in causes large and small. Those who were fortunate to know Anita knew that all friends were family and family was everything to her. She saw and did so much in her lifetime and no matter what the circumstances, no matter how dark the moment might seem, her lighthearted smile shined through it all. She was a simple, good and kind person. That was all and that was everything. Her memory will always be a blessing.

All are welcome to join in a celebration of Anita's life at Christ Lutheran Church, Webster Groves, Missouri on Saturday, August 5, 2023 at 11:00 a.m., with visitation at 10:00 a.m. Contributions in Anita's honor may be made to Bethania Kids India and Webster-Rockhill Ministries.

Today we are remembering with the family Anita's 100th birthday. Regrettably we were out of town at the time of her death & just learned of it. She was such a sweet, gentle, loving person with a wonderful laugh that blessed countless lives. Anita was an example to me of graciously accepting significant live changes with grace & acceptance of God's plans. Daily I take great pleasure in the dishes she gave us when we moved into her home & family didn't want the extra dishes of her double set of Johnson Bros Summer Chintz that I had admired years before meeting her. I smile as I set the table & think of her generosity.
May the Lord give you the comfort that only He can as you miss the love unique to a mother and grandmother. What a heritage you have.

May your memories give you peace and comfort of your loved one. Words fall short of expressing my sorrow for the loss of your loved one. May GOD be with you all during this difficult time. 1 Thessalonians 4:14 For if we have faith that Jesus died and rose again, so too God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep in death through Jesus.

Such a beautiful obituary tribute! Anita sounds like a very remarkable woman who left you all with happy lovely memories. I wish I had known her. I have the great pleasure of knowing 2 of her daughters, Rebecca and Claudia, good and kind women like their mother, with that special smile. Peace and love to all the Trautmann family.
Warm regards,
Debbie Linden

Before Marna and I moved to AZ I had the urge to spend a delightful spring day at "The Snows" enjoying their fabulous soup and croutons. I said to Marna, "We're going to call Anita and invite her along - this is a person you need to meet. We drove the 50 minutes from the Groves to the Snows and enjoyed a lovely lunch of soup and salad. I asked how long it had been since she had come here, and she said, NEVER. Do you mean that as much as Bob loved their soup, that you've never had the pleasure? Nope, so unknowingly, we had the chance to share Bob together one last time. I don't think I've ever met a lovelier and more caring person, as is reflected in all the kids and spouses and grand kids. Still got the ring Claudia.
