Ann Hutchinson Collins

Ann Hutchinson Collins (formerly Ann Collins McNeil) of Naples, Fl and Duxbury, Ma passed peacefully on 7/7/2025 after a short illness.

She leaves behind 3 sons, William McNeil (Philadelphia, Pa), David McNeil (N. Smithfield, RI), Jeffery McNeil (Portland, Me) and a daughter Shelley McNeil (Plymouth, Ma) as well as 7 grandchildren, Laning, Jessie, Jameson, Madelyn, William, Samantha & Brian. All of whom she took great pride and joy in.

She also leaves behind her best friend Jean McNally of Naples Fl and Duxbury, Ma. The two had been inseparable since Jean moved to Duxbury in 1977. Both started and ran a successful business in Duxbury that went by the name of Bayberry Monograms, located in Hall's Corner. Both had a passion for sailing and snow skiing and could frequently be found on the bay in either Ann's Sunfish or Jean's much larger sailing vessel and in the Vermont mountains.

Ann was born on 11/26/1943 in Quincy, Ma to Charles Shelton Collins (1918-2003) & Virginia MacGregor Collins (1919-2007). In 1953 her parents bought a home in Duxbury on St. George Street affectionately known as The Red House located just before Millbrook. Ann also was an avid fan of horseback riding and as a child convinced her father to buy her one, which would also reside on the St. George Street property. She would go on through the Duxbury public school system graduating with the Class of 1961 where she made many lifelong friends, many of whom still reside in town today. Ann was a graduate of Elmira College in Elmira, NY where she earned her bachelor's degree in English. She married William M McNeil Jr. of Duxbury in 1966 and after living a few years on Depot St., moved to 19 Shipyard Lane in 1969. It was in that home she raised her 4 children as well as extending herself to the neighborhood children. Her priorities were her children, and she frequently volunteered in school and sports activities as well as many a get together with her classmates and their children. Her 4th of July parties at the Shipyard home were a highlight every year and looked forward to by many. She was also a prominent organizer of the annual Shipyard Ln clambake that went on for many years.

In accordance with her wishes, she will be brought back to Duxbury to be interred with her parents in Mayflower Cemetery. Services will be announced in the coming weeks.
