Ann Dixon Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Mar. 30, 2022.
Ann Foss Dixon (given name, Elaine) was known by most as 'Annie.' She is the daughter of Mrs. Isabella Bradbury Foss and Mr. Gates Perham Foss of Santa Barbara. She graduated from Santa Barbara High School in 1957 and like her mother, she was on the Cheerleader Squad for the mighty olive and gold!

Early in her life she was an accomplished Race Car Driver and won numerous trophies including a much coveted Checkered Flag. She was a truly amazing free hand artist who preferred simply grey graphite - and it did not matter the surface! This prolific gift lives on in her granddaughter Natasha Moore (also an amazing artist) and her great-granddaughter Evynn Greenlee, to this day. None of her boys: Obie, Tyler, Gates, or Bob can even draw....so it must be a girl gene. Her true passion however, was beach volleyball. Back in the day, Annie (AAA Player) played VBall in Santa Barbara with the likes of Teddy Wilkerson "The Flying Dutchman" and Wilt "The Stilt" Chamberlain. The original Santa Barbara team (Sambos?) that she helped to pioneer would later become the renowned Santa Barbara Spikers. A legacy indeed!

Annie is survived by her two older brothers: Gates Foss Jr. (Solvang CA) and Robert Foss (Santa Barbara CA) as well as her two younger sisters: Susan Farrell (Oxnard CA) and Elizabeth "Boo" Edmenson (Albany OR). As mentioned above, Annie has four sons: Oliver "Obie" Dixon (Alaska), Gates Dixon (Arizona), Tyler Dixon (South Korea), and Robert Dixon (Colorado). She has 9 grand children: Natasha (Tyler); Andrew, Perham, Megan and Olivia (Obie); Jessica (Gates); and Brandon, Bethany and Blake (Bob). At the time of this writing she leaves behind four great-grandchildren: Jack, Evynn and McKenzie (Tyler~Natasha) and Dannika (Obie~Andrew).

While Annie's later adult life was marked by immeasurable heartache, deep neglect, and an unsearchable brokenness - at the age of sixty, the power of the Gospel of Jesus Christ broke through her pain and she received Christ and became a true believer, a born-again Christian and a child of God. It is this victory that marks the last two decades of her life. While she suffered from and eventually died of numerous severe aneurysms and their related complications, Annie was guarded by the very Spirit of God our Father and helped by the loving hands of the nurses that sustained her and cared for her daily.

I will miss being able to see my Mom, but I am very pleased and happy to know her terrible sufferings in this life have finally come to an end. Praise God for her victory!
