Ann Melinda Hawks, 70, of Topeka Kansas passed into the arms of Yeshua (Jesus) on November 30, 2022. She was born January 3, 1952, to her parents, Marian Joan Hawks (Derby) and Floris Warren Hawks in Topeka.
Ann’s education included high school graduation from Shawnee Heights High School in 1970, undergraduate college degrees in anthropology and human development from the University of Kansas in 1975, and a graduate degree in special education from the University of New Mexico in 1979.
Ann worked as an advocate for young children in many different capacities though her 40 years of teaching. She authored a series of teaching modules at the University of Illinois, contributed to grant writing, authored articles while in New Mexico pertaining to the early integration of non-handicapped and handicapped children. What she loved most was working with the children themselves and she did this work in Minnesota, New Mexico and her beloved state of Kansas.
Ann became a committed Christian and follower of her Messiah, Jesus Christ, in the 1990’s and thrived on reading and discussing the bible with others within small groups, praying for the needs of others, and participating in corporate worship.
Ann never married, but dearly loved her family and friends. One brother, John Warren Hawks, survives and three nephews, Benjamin Warren, Adam Benjamin, and Samuel Isaac. She was preceded in death by her parents, Warren and Joan Hawks, and her grandparents, Roy and Margaret Derby and Howard and Cleva Hawks.
A graveside service will be held on Saturday, December 3rd at 10:00 am at the Topeka Cemetery Garden Chapel. Memorial contributions are suggested to Joni and Friends, the International Fellowship of Christians and Jews, or Preborn! Save Babies and Souls.

Bless you Ann. We attended Grace Cathedral as children, worked together in Theatre at SHHS, reconnected 40 years later! We loved sharing stories and delighting in our shared faith in Christ, our Lord, Shepherd and Friend. You are thought of my dear.

I worked with Ann at S.H.E.S in the Shawnee Heights School District. She was a sweet and caring soul. It
showed in her love for her students. She had shared with me many times about her brother and nephews, she adored them. I am sorry to hear about her passing. I am certain heaven has gained another angel. God Bless!

Ann was a loyal friend for many years. I am thankful we were able to see each other several times in the last few years. Her love and concern for John and his sons were evident in her conversations and prayer requests. I pray her friends and family will allow memories of/with Ann to flow over the next few months and that those memories will bring comfort and growth and peace.
