Ann Pletcher

PLETCHER, Ann, passed away peacefully Monday, August 31, 2009, at Cornerstone Hospice House in Tavares, Fla. She was born September 10, 1921, in Anamosa, Iowa, the daughter of John and Lillian DuMont. In 1944, Ann enlisted in the U.S. Marines. While stationed in North Carolina, she met her future husband, Ray, who instilled in her a love for the game of golf, teaching her so well that she had a hole-in-one at Walden Lake Country Club in 1978. They chose Plant City as their home in 1952. Their marriage lasted 60 years, ending with Ray' s death in 2007. In 2008, Ann moved to Tavares to be near her daughter, Karen. With a zest for life, Ann was always a busy wife and mother. She led a Girl Scout Troop; was a charter member of Sunset Heights Methodist Church, where she served in many capacities; served as worthy matron for the Order of the Eastern Star in Plant City; and was a member of the South Florida Hospital Auxiliary for many years. With courage and determination and the support of "Ann' s Angels", Ann conquered lymphoma in 1995. A born saleswoman, Ann owned and operated a fabric store before selling her legendary strawberry shortcakes with Ray. In 1980, she began a 26-year career as an Avon representative, in which she was a perennial top seller. She is survived by daughters, Linda Sanchez and son-in-law, Alex, of Mooresville, N.C.; Karen Hogshead and son-in-law, Rod of Tavares, Fla.; son, Ray L. Pletcher Jr., and daughter-in-law, Sheila, of Plant City; 10 grand-children, Jonathan and wife, Lauren, Julia and husband, Bradley, Joseph, Ryan and wife, Grace, Michael, Matthew and fiancee Tiffany, Ty, Kristina, Damion and Chandra; four great-grandchildren; and a sister, Mary Anwyl of Roseville, Calif. She was predeceased by her husband, Ray, daughter, Julia Kay, sister, Julia Anwyl and brother, John DuMont. Funeral services will be conducted at noon Thursday, September 3, with visitation one hour prior at Wells Memorial Chapel. A private interment will follow.
