Ann RABOUD Obituary

Published by Edmonton Journal from Dec. 26, 2015 to Jan. 3, 2016.
RABOUD, Ann Mary (nee McAleese)
Ann Mary Raboud, nee McAleese, passed away in Edmonton on December 15, 2015, at the age of 93.
She is survived by her children, Frank (Sheila) Raboud, Raine Reece, Gerald (Mary Ann) Raboud, Dianne (Randy) MacDonald; five grandchildren, Larissa Ardis (Hector Paniagua Baltazar), Joshua MacDonald, Nathan Raboud, Carson Raboud, Elias (Chelsie) MacDonald; and one great- grandchild, Naphtali MacDonald. Ann is also survived by her twin sister, Mary (Sr. Mary Sheila McAleese); brother, Eddy; as well as many cherished relatives and friends. She was predeceased in 1996 by her beloved husband of 53 years, John G. Raboud.
Ann Raboud was born in 1922 in County Antrim, Ireland. In 1929, her family emigrated from Northern Ireland to 100 acres of newly cleared land near Clandonald, Alberta. As a young girl, Ann adopted the values of Faith, Family and Fun modelled by her parents, Edward and Katherine, both accomplished fiddlers, step dancers and story tellers. Ann displayed a confident and joyful approach to life, whether practicing Beauty Culture in New York City at the age of eighteen, being a devoted wife and mother after finding her husband-to-be, John, on leave as a Naval Officer in Victoria, BC., contributing to the long-term Red Cross Rh- Research in Edmonton, founding and participating in the Assumption Parish branch of the CWL, and being an intrepid tourist on certain less travelled roads to destinations like Kinshasa, Bogata and Hong Kong. Ann loved writing and storytelling and was dedicated for years to the Brown Baggers, her creative writing group, through which she had several stories and articles published in the 'Voices' column in the Edmonton Journal. In addition, Ann was a generous and unflappable hostess to anyone and everyone at any time of the day or night. She never let her well understood ground rules interfere with her ability to be a calm and compassionate sounding board for those who needed to be heard. She was a widely trusted and respected resource and will be remembered with love.
Mass of Christian Burial Saturday, January 16 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Andrew Roman Catholic Church, 12810 – 111 Avenue with Reverend Antony Fernando SDB officiating. Cremation has already taken place. Ann's immediate family will conduct a private interment ceremony at Holy Cross Cemetery at a later date. If friends so desire, tributes are graciously accepted to a charity of one's choice, or to the the Alzheimer Society of Alberta & NWT, 10531 Kingsway Avenue, Edmonton, AB T5H 4K1.

We were very saddened to hear of the passing of Aunt Ann. Ann lived a full life and now is at peace. Ann and John were always very hospitable. The coffee was always on and their door was always open. When our kids were
young, we spent a lot of time with John and Ann in the city and at their acreage at Winfield, Ab. Our kids have very fond memories of many hours spent, fishing, camping and playing cards with Ann and John. Ann was happy cooking and spending time with her immediate family and her large extended family.
Ann was very good natured and a good sport. She was always game for a new adventure.
We are happy knowing that she will be reunited with her mom and dad Edward and Kate and her sibling, Pat, John, Dan, Archie, Sally and Eileen.
Our sincere condolences to Frank, Lorraine, Gerald, Dianne and all the family at this very sad time.
Sincerely Pat, Liz, Christine, Andrew and Brendan McAleese.
