Visiting Dayton after almost 50 years (March 2021). My son now lives here. Was trying to trace my old boss Jack Richens from the USAF Aero Propulsion Lab and came across Ann’s obituary. So sorry. It would be great to talk to Jack.

A true lady that when I introduced her to my dad in Austin,TX at a Feis, he said she reminded him of Lady Bird Johnson & I told her that at the next feis she was at in CA. I was a dancer as well as a result runner & got to know Ann & she was amazing.

I've said this before on another page, but my favorite memory of Mrs. Richens, whom I first met while running results for her at a feis was when I competed & a few times she was the judge. She was at the Austin, TX feis in which my parents had come to see me for the first time & they got to meet her. The next year I saw her again & during a break I went over to give her a copy of the photo of her with my parents & she was so sweet & we ended up giggling at the idea of a 50 yr old (me) giving her the photo of my folks. Had several rows of people behind us enjoying the subject as well. Mrs. Richens - via my dad, was a true lady & I know I will always remember what an honor it was to know her , be judged by her & to run results for her. Blessings & prayers to her family, friends & students always!!

I am so sorry to hear of Ann's passing. When I began taking dance lessons from her and Tess Donnelly at the Hibernian Club on Xenia Avenue I was a young girl. Irish dancing became my passion and that was because of Ann's enthusiasm and desire to see me do my best. I carry those wonderful memories with me daily and feel blessed to have known Ann. I am so sorry that I didn't have a chance to pay my respects to her and her family. God Bless You All,

We are all still in disbelief that Ann has really passed. I will NEVER forget my desperate call to her on an early Monday morning following the Irish Festival 10 years ago. I pleaded my case that my girls MUST be a part of her amazing school despite them not participating in the summer camp. That conversation lead to more family memories than i could have ever dreamed. Being a part of the Richens/Timm family was one of the best decisions we ever made for Casey, Megan, and Brianna. Thank you, Ann, for those cherished moments and uncomparable experiences. You are certainly missed.

My condolences to the Richens and Farrell families. Not only has the world lost a wonderful person but a great teacher as well. As an Adult Dancer, I only knew Ann for seven years, but they have been wonderful years. I cannot fathom how class will be this coming fall. I will surely miss her!

To Jack and the Farrell Family,
Ann was a true friend and we loved her through the many years. She was an inspiration to our girls, Meeghan and Christen, and helped them become wonderful adults. To be with Ann was always fun, good laughing fun because she had a spirit for life. We did a lot together through special times and she will always be in our memories and a real loss to our family.
Jack, thank you for being so loving and supporting of Ann. I think it helped her be the wonderful person she was.
God bless Ann and all of you.

I will always remember Ann Richens for her vivacious personality. I'll never forget the first time I met her at the Inis Ealga studio in Ireland. She was dancing right beside me and was so excited to be dancing. Many years after that, we became colleagues when I became an adjudicator. I always had great respect for Ann. She will be missed by all.

I will have fond memories of walking to the parking garage with Ann after class (Columbus Celtic Dancers on Monday nights). I usually carried one of her bags, and was glad that neither one of us was walking alone to our cars.
Ann was so pleasant to talk with, which made for a very good way to end a Monday. I'll always cherish those moments. It was a privilege to be one of her (adult) students.

In My Pocket
I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.
My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.
They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.
Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.
But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.

I was very sad to hear that Mrs. Richens has passed away. I am a 12-year-old Irish dancer from Canada. To me, she has always been the "adorable, smiley judge." She was always the first to comfort a fallen dancer, and her kind smile always made me feel like a winner, no matter how I placed. I wish that I had known her better. She will be sadly missed, even by dancers who only knew her from across the table.

So saddened by the loss of a great and wonderful teacher, mentor and friend..
May the blessing of the rain be on you—
the soft sweet rain.
May it fall upon your spirit
so that all the little flowers may spring up,
and shed their sweetness on the air.
...May the blessing of the great rains be on you,
may they beat upon your spirit
and wash it fair and clean,
and leave there many a shining pool
where the blue of heaven shines,
and sometimes a star.

While I only knew Ann for a few years, she was a blessing and inspiration to me. It seemed clear to me that God tailored made Ann to teach Irish Dance and shine His light upon the world. Her light radiated far beyond the dance floor and my life is richer for the experiences I shared with Ann and our Tuesday Night Class. I can almost imagine it now; she's teaching the Angels Irish Dance and encouraging Jesus that he too will catch on with practice.

Ann has touched so many lives through dance. She had been in my life for 24 out of my 30 years. I am so saddened by her passing, but know she is an angel in heaven and she will be watching over me. If words could only convey my gratitude. Ann Richens was so much more than a dance teacher. I was her student in dance for only a few short years but her lessons will last throughout my lifetime. She taught me confidence, courage, dedication and most importantly to believe in my own talents. This has influenced my life in so many ways. It has guided me through many challenges and has been responsible for my most significant successes. Although I was too young to know it at the time, Ann changed who I was and she will always be part of who I am.

There are no words that can measure the effect that Ann had on the dancers and the people around her. I remember her as a woman of strength, dignity and high expectations, but most of all, love and passion for the community.

Ann was one of the classiest people I have ever met and also one of the kindest and most thoughtful. Where do I begin? Ann was always so giving of her time. She always expected the best from her students.
This is evidenced by her dance camp, which motivates around 200 Richens/Timm students each year. For me, dance camp is a retreat from technology, the piles of things to do on my desk, and the world. Camp is where R/T dancers work for 4 hours a day on their passion. It is the highlight of my summer, and the highlight of camp was Ann's enthusiasm, spunk, and love for all of us. She was a visionary who brought Irish dance to the farmlands of the Midwest. The R/T Academy will never be the same, but it will continue on, thanks to Ann. We will never forget her.
Rest in peace, Ann. You've earned it.

My heartfelt sympathy to you Jack, Mary Ann and Chris. Ann was my friend and mentor for many years and I have enjoyed many years of memories of our time together. She was an inspiration to me and taught me so much, not only about dancing but how to treat people. She was confident and had such class. May Our Lord be with you and comfort you. You and all her family will be in my prayers.
