I was stationed at Rota, Spain 65-68, Clyde (called Bud by his squadron mates) was the air frames and power plants officer. I was on the NavSta Rota pistol team with him and he was shooting NRA Master class. We shot many matches together against the US Air Force detachment at Moron, Spain. He out-shot them all. He mentored my shooting to improve my skills and I visited him several times at his Spanish home off-base. Wish we had stayed in contact. He was a great guy.

Buddy became my genealogy mentor. He inspired in me the desire to continue preserving our family history. He was quite a historian and remembered dates, places and relationships whether it was in the 1600's when Captain Richard Betts immigrated into Long Island, NY or back to the Charlemagne in the 800's. I will always cherish the times we shared.
