Anna Eckleberry Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on May 27, 2025.
Phoenix - Anna M. Eckleberry, 101, of Liberty, AZ, passed away peacefully at home on May 20, 2025.

Born to Albert and Lucy Jantz on October 4, 1923, at Ft. Thomas AZ, Anna was a beloved figure in her community, cherished for her kindness and loving nature.

Anna graduated from Litchfield High School and later, at age 36, pursued her post secondary education at Arizona State University, where she earned a degree in teaching.

She dedicated many years to nurturing young minds as a first-grade teacher at Liberty Elementary School. Nothing gave her more pleasure than encountering former students and learning of the various paths their lives had taken.

Before beginning her teaching career, however, Anna worked alongside her husband, Virgil, on their 80-acre dairy farm, where she balanced the demands of farm life with raising a family and actively supporting her sons in their school, community, and church activities.

After retiring, Anna discovered a passion for bowling, honing her skills to compete in national tournaments as a member of the Ladies Match Point bowling league. Her enthusiasm for the sport continued into her nineties, even celebrating with fellow bowlers by rolling a few games the week of her 100th birthday.

Anna was predeceased by her husband, Virgil Eckleberry; grandson, Kelly Eckleberry; and great-grandson, Jaydee McKinney.

She is survived by: three sons, Virgil Vernon Eckleberry, Jr. (Brenda), 81, of Brunswick, GA; Gene Wayne Eckleberry, 77, of Phoenix, AZ; Gayle Edward Eckleberry, 76, of Buckeye, AZ; Six grandchildren, Brian Eckleberry (Annette), Kevin Eckleberry (Julie), Dona Barrow (Ty), Sean Eckleberry (Carrie McCullough), Jennifer Jensen (Peter), Adam Eckleberry (Sandra); and 11 great-grandchildren.

Anna's life exemplified devotion to her family, friends, students, church and community, leaving a lasting impact and cherished memories for all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Visitation will be Friday, May 30, from 5 to 7pm at Ganley's Buckeye Funeral Home. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Liberty United Methodist Church, May 31, at 10am with Pastor Bob Lind officiating.
