Anna Sahakyan-Kendrick (Age 49)

Anna Sahakyan-Kendrick lost her battle with cancer on May 22, 2022. She was 49 years old. Born and raised in Yerevan, Armenia, Anna's deeply rooted sense of integrity and resolve for making a positive difference in people's lives was reflected in her stellar career in the humanitarian and international development fields. During her career at Counterpart International she was a driving force behind Civil Society Programs, overseeing a portfolio of over $170 million in regions as diverse as Central Asia and Latin America. She was a valued colleague with partners such as USAID, the United Nations, and NGOs. And as PATH's Director of Operations for Digital Square, she is remembered as a "fearless leader who spoke hard truths, and tackled challenges head on with commitment and grace." Anna was a devoted and nurturing mother, wife, daughter, and sister. She took great pride in her children's athletic, artistic, and academic achievements and their display of empathy for others. She lived her life with grace and joy with the patience of a saint and the perseverance of a warrior. Although global in outlook, and proud to be an American citizen, she took pride in her Armenian heritage and culture. In an effort to give back, she served as President of the Board of the Society for Orphaned Armenian Relief (SOAR) and was a member of the Armenian Network of America, Washington Region, as well as of St. Mary's Armenian Apostolic Church Parish in Bethesda, MD. In addition, Anna and a small circle of friends raised funds to support 39 Armenian families, enabling 14 of their children to attend college. She will be sorely missed and remembered with love and affection by all whose lives she touched. Anna is survived by her loving husband, John Kendrick, their 14-year-old daughter Emma, nine-year old twin sons Jaden and John, her mother, Laura Manukyan, and her brother Vaghinak Sahakyan. In lieu of flowers, we encourage donations to SOAR (soar-us.org) and the National Breast Cancer Foundation (nbcf.org.au). The Memorial Service will be held on Friday, June 3, 2022, 4 p.m. at Murphy Funeral Home, 4510 Wilson Blvd., Arlington, VA 22203.
