I am so saddened to hear of the loss of the best teacher i ever had. "Little one" as i affectionately called her was a very special lady. She was so kind, bubbly and genuinely concerned about her students. She had her hands full with the Ridgemont misfits back in the 80's in a basement classroom without a window steps away fro the smoking area where she would round us up on her way to the dungeon to ensure we all made it to class. She helped me see a different world. One even i could excel in. She will be forever in my thoughts

I was so sorry to hear this news tonight. Miss Gillespie was an incredible woman and teacher. I was very lucky to be her peer tutor in her grade 11 law class at Glebe Collegiate, and learned so much from her that year! She allowed me to take on challenges that many teachers wouldn't have, and was a wonderful role model. She was passionate, caring, and she had a fabulous sense of humour. My condolences to her friends and family!

To Anne's sisters and brothers: So very sad and sorry to hear about Anne's passing. I knew Anne from way back when we went to elementary school together. We would meet after our lunch at your home on Chomley Cres to watch "Leave it to Beaver" before heading off to school for the afternoon....Many fun times baking muffins together at your home too. We spent time at the church close to your home ....bible readings but we were there for the crafts....Such a very special girl. Again, so sorry....to Anne's husband and sons also....love Judy Kinsella Laurin

I am so sorry to hear of the passing of my good friend, Anne. We first met when Anne was beginning her teaching career at the High School of Commerce. Not only did we work together in the same department but we continued our studies in Kingston during the summers and winters.
Her sense of humour, optimism, and passion for life is what I will miss the most.
My wife and I always looked forward to her Christmas updates.
She has left us with so many wonderful memories. We will cherish them forever.

Ken,Clark,Graham and the Gillespie family,
Words cannot express the deep sense of loss I feel. Anne and I developed a strong bond of friendship, when we met in Sierra Leone in 1984 as members of the CTF Project Overseas team. We roomed together and used our sense of humour to get through some trying times. I would never have survived it without her.We always kept in touch and my visits to Ottawa were very special. Finally, this past September, she came to Newfoundland to visit me. What a ball we had visiting small towns! She loved talking to people, especially the fisherman, who was gutting codfish! You are in my thoughts and prayers. Those we love don't go away, they walk beside us every day. Love, Noreen

Anne was a breathe of fresh air and her smile was as big as her spirit. She truly did touch thousands of young peoples lives and helped to guide and inspire them, most of the time not even knowing that she had.
I was fortunate to have ‘Miss Gillespie' during her first years of teaching. She was a breathe of fresh air. Although not much older than the grade 13 students Miss Gillespie was not a push over, she demanded excellence, pushed us because she knew we could do better and connected with us like no other teacher in the building. I can vividly remember things she taught us, even if it was not part of accounting class.
One day she came in dressed in jeans and a t-shirt, looking pretty sloppy. This was the polar opposite of how Miss Gillespie usually dressed. She walked in to the class and just sat and said nothing. We as students started wondering what was going on with her… why was she dressed like THAT? I remember asking if we missed a spirit day? After listening to us Miss Gillespie stated that,
“You think dressing nicely is not important, doesn't make a difference, well it does. Listen to what you have all been saying about how I am dressed. “ She also told us we would remember that moment before we remembered any specific lesson she would ever teach us. She was absolutely right.
I remember her welcoming smile, her infectious go get'em spirit, her ‘don't give up attitude' and I remember her being the biggest cheerleader for all students'.
I feel so fortunate to have been able to keep in contact with her via work as well. Each time we bumped into each other she always had the biggest hugs.
I know what a loss so many thousands of people are feeling right now, and I can only imagine how you, her family are feeling. Please know that Anne was loved, respected, admired, and will be truly remembered by so many.

My most sincere condolences to Anne's family and friends. I was teaching at Brookfield when Anne was principal and I can still see her sitting at her desk on an exercise ball! Always a ball of fire,
Anne will be truly missed by all whose lives she touched and they are far too numerous to mention. Last year she came to my home school, Cairine Wilson, to talk about her experience with this dreaded disease and today when I mentioned her passing, many in the class remembered her and her courageous words.
She was a strong and determined woman, who has left this earth far too soon.

Dear Ken, Clark and Graham,
My sincerest condolences to you and extended families. I was in total shock when I found out about Miss Gillespie's death.
I have very fond memories of Miss Gillespie as a "fresh-faced" teacher that didn't seem to be much older than her students when she taught us upon starting at RHS in 1982 (at least, that was my first introduction to her). The first class I had with her was BCP 9G (Basic Computer Programming) in the basement classroom of the hallowed halls of RHS. It was also my first time ever using a 'computer'! It was an exciting time for sure. Within the institutional feel of the bland concrete walls and minimal (almost opaque) windows, I can honestly say that all the students in my class (and others) looked forward to attending: primarily due to Miss Gillespie being our teacher, her enthusiasm and fun-spirited personality (but also an education-valuing person that knew how to command a classroom of students, keep things interesting while educating, being friendly enough to create lasting bonds but just the right amount of authority that commanded respect for her role as teacher/educator). She introduced me to computer programming language of BASIC; teaching all about REM statements, if-then loops, etc. Let's not forget the computer lab area that was stocked with Commodore PETs or CBMs...and the good old dot matrix printers!!!
Upon starting at RHS, Miss Gillespie was somewhat 'single', but not too long after we could all see a joy in her that she could not contain. She had met "the one" in Ken. All students were happy for her and enjoyed the fact that she shared snippets of her life with us. Not too long after marrying her prince, their family was about to begin. We were all excited for her first-born. I remember visiting her in the hospital after Clark was born. Precious moments indeed.
As Miss Gillespie was part of the RHS business department, I often had reason to see her regularly throughout my years at RHS because of other courses she taught and as part of my co-op placement within the RHS business department. I was asked, and given the honour, of being a babysitter for the Gillespie/Kingsbury family. I baby-sat little Clark (affectionately known back then as "Boo") many times. And then given the same honour again later on when Graham's arrival blessed the family (he was affectionately known as "Hambone"). Although, I haven't seen them in many years, they are now grown, young men (and likely tower over me!). Miss Gillespie always doted on her "first family" being Mom & Dad and siblings...even following in her dad's footsteps of teaching and principalship. Her own family (Ken and "the boys") were her treasures, her everything. She was passionate about many things: Sports-minded (especially curling), watching Masterpiece theatre, travel, etc.
Miss Gillespie was not only well-liked by her students, but also her colleagues over the years...she earned everybody's respect. She was also a faithful servant to the Lord and her faith kept her strong and guided her in her personal/family life, as well as, her professional life.
So, it is with utmost sadness and heavy heart that I send this message as a "send-off" as you find your eternal resting place amongst the angels of Heaven, but you forever remain in my heart, thoughts, and lessons-learned.
Thanks Miss Gillespie!

Dear Ken, Clark and Graham. Dan, Yves, Marc and myself were very saddened to read of the passing of Anne. Memories of her during our hockey years were fun, she was and still is a wonderful person. I always remember that she went to the Grey cup with her father each year no matter where it was and I am relieved that she will once again get to see it with her Dad from up above, front row seats without a doubt. Cherish the good times you shared together, they will remain in your hearts forever.

Dear Ken, Clarke and Graham,
It was through Anne's sister, Clare and brother-in-law, Ian, that we became acquainted with your wonderful wife and mother. We heard exciting stories of annual Grey Cups, trips to Portugal, and volunteering for Habitat for Humanity. Her love for, and commitment to education, were inspirational for others in the field, both beginning teachers and veterans. We followed with interest the building of the new cottage and were thrilled when Anne was able to spend time there. Whether it was Thanksgiving, Christmas, birthdays or other important milestones, these gatherings were always filled with laughter and love. It was evident how important family was to Anne; they all received her attention and care.
Anne touched many lives in her short time here and she will be greatly missed by all. May the wonderful memories you hold and the knowledge of the high esteem in which she was held be of some comfort to you at this time and in the future.

I can only pray that you can find comfort in the many memories you must have of the wonderful times you have shared. All of us who knew Annie from Hillcrest over the years, send condolences to Annie's family.
It is absoulutely heart breaking to think of losing someone so sweet, so giving and so young.
I was a couple of years ahead of Anne at Hillcrest, but we all knew her because we knew who the teacher's kids were. She was as wonderful and popular as he.
Anne was an absolute joy to work with on the HHS 50th reunion - that was when I really got to know the special girl that she was, warm, fun, bubbly & efficient.
One of the highlights was listening to her and Frank speak at the opening assembly, telling her memories as a student, teacher and VP. (I think there is a clip of it on the reunion dvd.) One of the giggles was her insisting that I must speak with the caterer (even though she knew I didn't want to), holding her cell phone to my ear while my hands were busy. I think her hands were always busy.

Annie referred to us as each others longest friend. We knew each other before we were forming thoughts- before kindergarden. Memories? Too many to count. There are just so many wonderful things that should be said about her, it would take forever. I would like to mention one thing that summed up her personality.
Over the course of her illness, we talked frequently. I tried to help her understand medical issues, as well as simply be a friend. But who sent cards and notes to make the other person feel better? Annie. Words of understanding, as she comforted me. Think about that. She wanted me to settle down, not be angry, and accept the cycle of life. Her faith, strength, and love humbled me as I realized just how she could think of others ahead of herself. And that defines her. I will love her always, forget her never.

Anne was my friend, fellow teacher, my daugher-in-law,dear daughter, and the mother of my two wonderful grandsons. She is irreplacable in my life. We are bereft but relieved that she will suffer no more. Rest peacefullly Annie. I will cherish your memory.

Dear Ken, Clark and Graham. There are no words to accurately express the sadness both Dan and I feel for all of you; the loss of a wife, mother and friend at such a young age is unspeakable. Gone far too soon, Anne's work on earth was truly that of an angel and we have no doubt that she is now organizing, educating and guiding as an angel in heaven. Our family loved her dearly and will miss her forever? Susan Clark & Dan DesRoches

A great educator, a great person. We have lost one of the best. I have known Anne for a large part of her career; from Teacher to Principal. We spent five years together at Ridgemont where she was a tireless teacher. So sad to see someone go so young. I am still shocked. My thoughts and prayers are with the family.
