Anne Glancy Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers from Jan. 24 to Jan. 28, 2024.
Eugene - Anne Glancy passed away unexpectedly on December 11, 2023. She was 86 years young, living a full life with her companion, Bill Austin, and their adorable dog, Pepe, engaging in healthy hobbies and nurturing friendships. What makes Anne so memorable is her sincerity and considerable kindness with everyone she's ever known, as well those who have only had a brief encounter with her. It's why she is loved and will be greatly missed, along with her Unicef cards and long phone calls.

Anne was born in 1937 in Whittier, CA. After her parents divorced when she was four years old, she and her mother moved to San Francisco, living closer to her aunt. She grew up spending summers at her grandparent's cottage on Clear Lake in Northern California and graduated from Galileo High School in 1955.

It was on a blind date that she met her now-late husband, John, as he was starting his path to becoming a teacher; they were married on September 2, 1955 at Swedenborgian Church in San Francisco, CA. They welcomed a son in the next year and then adopted a toddler girl in 1966. Anne and John were partners in many aspects of their life together such as teaching English as a second language to Finnish high school students, being proactive participants in the construction of a passive solar-energy house to live in, dabbling in the dramatic arts and swinging golf clubs together during the winter months in Yuma, AZ.

When Anne was in her late 30's, she was invited by a friend to take a ceramics class. And in doing so, Anne had found a wonderful way to express her creativity for 40 more years; to be a potter and have her own business to share her art. She had three studio-shops while she lived in Sonoma County, CA, then made a home studio in Ashland soon after she moved to Oregon in 1988, followed by a second one in Eugene by 2002. Her pottery was seen and sold in fairs and galleries, or given as gifts to family and friends. She kept connected with her clay community all while working and also after she stopped making pots. Anne settled into retirement by involving herself in humanitarian projects in downtown Eugene, joined book clubs, attended performances at the Hult Center and played ping pong and cribbage matches weekly.

Anne is survived by her son, Douglas Glancy and daughter-in-law, Sandra Springer of Portland, OR; her daughter, Nadia Glancy and daughter-in-law, Carolyn Crain of Suisun City, CA; and her beloved granddaughter, Julia Glancy of Chicago, IL, in addition to her extended family members, many dear friends and colleagues.
