MAIER ANNE MARIE, Ph.D.
On Sunday, May 17, 2015, age 84, of Pittsburgh. Beloved daughter of the late William F. and Marianne Lugauer Maier. A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 26, 2015, at 1:30 p.m. in the St. Sebastian Roman Catholic Church, 311 Siebert Rd., Pittsburgh, PA 15237. As an instructor and later assistant professor in German, she taught at the University of Pittsburgh, Western Michigan University, Duquesne University for approximately three decades, and Indiana University of Pennsylvania for a few terms. She held an undergraduate degree from New York University, a master's degree in German from the University of Illinois, and a Ph.D. in German in 1997 from Pennsylvania State University. She had also studied at Columbia University, Indiana University, Bloomington, and one year at the University of Munich, Germany. Dr. Maier touched the lives of her many students, acquaintances, colleagues and friends. During her higher educational career, for example, she had from 1969 until retirement published reviews in The German Quarterly, chaired sessions and presented paper at the Pennsylvania Foreign Language Association Conference, and served as speaker and panelist at the Duquesne University Conference on German Unification.
