Anne-Marie Gross Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Apr. 22, 2015.
Anne-Marie was born in Visalia, California on January 7, 1973 to proud
parents Malcolm and Olga Gross.

The family moved to Turlock, CA in 1973, then built a house in Riverbank,
CA in 1976 where they resided until 2007. In the early years, Anne-Marie, or as
she was affectionately known "Reegi" or "Reeg," looked after her younger sister,
Alicia, by picking her up from school, teaching her math, and how to read during
the year, particularly in the summer months.

Anne-Marie's first cat was named Mitzi. Mitzi was run over by a car in the
street, so she decided any future cat would be an inside cat. Anne-Marie adopted
another cat, Kausten Shockley (named after a former Angel baseball player). As
you can see, Anne-Marie's love for the Angels had developed early, mostly due to
her Dad's love of baseball and the Angels. Kausten or "Bubbas" became a
constant companion for Anne-Marie.

Anne-Marie attended St. Stanislaus parochial school and Central Catholic
High School in Modesto, CA. She was in a hurry to get on with her life and so left
for University of California at Berkeley after her junior year of high school.

After her sister returned from college on the east coast, they once again
spent a lot of time together, becoming inseparable. When Alicia transferred to the
Dept. of Justice Crime Lab in Riverside, Anne-Marie soon followed and they lived
together in SoCal as they had always wanted.

When Anne-Marie had some health issues, it was Alicia who monitored her
medicine and watched after her older sister. They were not only sisters, but also
best friends.

In 2007, we all purchased a house in Colton, so that we could all live
together. The whole family lived here, Anne-Marie and Alicia in one wing and
Olga and Malcolm in the other wing. Then as more cats needed to be rescued, the
cat population began to increase. Both Anne-Marie and Alicia loved animals and,
in particular, cats. In fact, Best Friends Animal Society caught their attention and
it wasn't long before they made a trip to Kanab, Utah, to the Best Friends'
Sanctuary. They repeated this trip several times a year, taking Mom and Dad along
as well. Anne-Marie and Alicia did volunteer work for Best Friends, both in Utah
and Los Angeles. Anne-Marie was a financial contributor to Best Friends, among
other rescue organizations.

Throughout her life she was an avid baseball fan and sports fan and she
understood the game. Her Dad's secretary can testify to the many phone calls to
his office that became known as "sports updates" and they continued to the day
she passed away.

When Olga and Malcolm recently returned from a vacation, Alicia greeted
them with a "welcome home" and Anne-Marie sent her Dad a text that said, "What
are the Angels going to do with Hamilton." That was Anne-Marie, her love was a
given and Alicia, Olga and Malcolm have always known it.

Anne-Marie will be greatly missed by all her family and friends. She was
always there for everyone and we suspect she always will be in some form or
another. God Bless our wonderful loving daughter, sister, niece, friend and "kitty
mom" to her many pets, who are just beginning to sense her loss.

Anne-Marie will have a Graveside Service on Monday, April 27, 2015 at 1:00 PM at Montecito Memorial Park in Colton, California.

I'm so blessed to have had such a great friend, mentor, and role model in my life. God must have really needed you for him to have taken you from me so soon. You have impacted my life more than I can say. From the time I was a little girl you always made sure I knew you loved me. I have a life time of memories with you that will stay in my heart forever and so will all the lessons you taught me. Praying for your very loving family <3

I'm so saddened to hear this news. The Gross family lived next door to my family in Turlock, CA for a few years. I remember playing with Anne-Marie when we were kids, and I seem to remember she had a pet duck named "Ducker." Our families visited each other on occasion after the Gross family moved to Riverbank but we hadn't been in touch for a long time, but I will always remember her as being very kind and having a warm smile. Malcolm, Olga, Alicia and all of Anne-Marie's family and friends are in my thoughts. God bless you all.

Anne-Marie your passing has left a huge hole in my heart. Even though we were not really close friends you were such a special friend. I will always remember our days as schoolmates at St. Stanislaus School and at Central Catholic High School. May you rest in peace. Until we meet again. My sincerest sympathy and all my love to your parents and Alicia as they must go on with their lives without you!

From the running text commentary at city council meetings, to the biting 92313 recaps, to our sports conversations, the many ways in which you enriched my life will never be forgotten. I have always admired your unwavering stands for the things in which you believe, and your never ending love for family, friends, and fur babies. You were a force to be reckoned with and a soft touch all at the same time. Thanks for everything AM. Rest in peace and see ya on the other side. Godspeed!

Anne-Marie was a really sharp cookie, and funny, too. She also had a lot of heart: I remember, after my mother passed away from cancer, Anne-Marie was raising funds for donations to a cancer charity (Revlon, I think) and dedicated a bunch of them to my mom. I don't remember all the details (and may have some wrong) but the main thing I remember is the spirit with which Anne-Marie did this. She was determined and earnest, honoring this person she had never even met. That really struck me, and I will always appreciate her for that.

AnneMarie - I am a true believer that everything happens for a reason. But your passing doesn't make sense and has left me wondering. I didn't know you well, but I know that you were an awesome lady and one hell of an accountant. Rest in Peace <3

Your life was too young to be taken early. The Lord must have needed a brilliant bookkeeper. Rest in peace Ann-Marie. See you on the other side.
