Anne Ridley Obituary

Published by Vancouver Sun and/or The Province on Jun. 28, 2008.

RIDLEY Anne Anne Ridley was born Carol Anne Holloway on May 4, 1930, in Dorset, England, the youngest of three sisters. She developed a love of farming while helping her father on the family farm, Shalden Park, in Hampshire during the war years when farm labour was scarce. In 1949, she graduated from a course in dairy farming at County Farm Institute, Sparsholt. She emigrated to Canada with her young family to work on a farm in Ontario. Circumstances led her to British Columbia where she eventually met and married the love of her life, Clifford Ridley. She survived the loss of her loving husband by only two months, almost to the day. She passed away on June 24, 2008, in the embrace of family and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Ethel and Hugh Holloway, and her older sister, Hazel. She will be lovingly remembered by her large, blended family, all of whom she embraced equally. She is survived by her children, Melissa (Phillip), Jo-Anne (Bob), Bruce (Jaci), Pat (Rod), Sabrina, Bonita, Lorne (Kelly) and Vanessa (Jim), 17 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. Also left to remember her are her older sister Monica and nieces and nephews: Robert, Elizabeth, Charles, and Rebecca, all residing in England. Anne found the house and five acres she called "Tanglewood", known to her children as "The Farm", in 1966, and moved there to the countryside which reminded her of where she grew up. She spent a few years as security matron at Twin Maples Women's Prison where she was much loved for her counselling and nurturing of the troubled souls there. She was an avid knitter and quilter, many of her creations going to support the UCW to raise funds for the Webster's Corners United Church. Thanks to her lifelong friend, Ellie Ridley, who along with her husband, Jim, has done a wonderful job of executing Anne's estate. Thanks also to Holyrood Manor and Dr. Chapman. In lieu of flowers, donations to Webster's Corners United Church would help carry on her work. ALL OUR LOVE ALWAYS, ANNE, MUM, GRAMMA As you know, mum, your beloved "Heronbrook" is in good hands. Celebration of Life will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, July 3rd in the chapel at Garden Hill, 11765 - 224th St., Maple Ridge, BC.
