SOUTH YARMOUTH - Annette (Haimowitz) Reinert, died Tuesday, Oct. 2, 2007, at her home.

She was the wife of the late Robert Reinert.

Born in Rockaway Beach, N.Y., Annette was the daughter of the late Ida (Taub) and Paul Haimowitz. She was in the Marine Reserves and was called to active duty during the Korean War. At the end of the war, she was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal.

Annette made her career in the Veterans Administration in New York for 30 years, becoming one of the first female supervisors in the claims and disability department. Even after retiring to the Cape in 1978, she aided veterans with their claims, getting them their full benefits.

The Marine Corps Detachment presented her with her live membership in 2001. Annette proudly marched with her fellow veterans on Memorial Day.

An advocate for animal welfare, she rescued many cats and dogs from the alleyways of New York City. She was a member of the Cape Cod Cat Club, where she enjoyed showing her cats.

A procession will form at the Morris & O'Connor Funeral Home, 58 Long Pond Drive, South Yarmouth, on Friday (today) at 9 a.m. A graveside service, with military honors, will follow at 10:15 a.m. at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.

Donations in her memory may be made to, the Animal Rescue of Boston, Route 6A, Brewster, MA 02631.
