I served with Jay in the Coast Guard on the USCGC Northwind c. 1975 - 1978. Jay was a radarman, I was a quartermaster. Skip Page (comment below) was our shipmate. In late 1975 Northwind was in a Baltimore shipyard getting some major enlisted berthing rehab done. CG put us all up in a motel. Jay and I shared a room for I think about a month. Belated condolences.

I too was searching for an old friend. So sad to have learned of his passing. My sincerest condolences to the Family. I was on an Ice Breaker with Jay in the Coast Guard back in the 1970´s and about 5 or 6 years back had the pleasure of seeing him again for lunch in North Hampton. It brought back some fond memories. Rest In Peace my Brother, we have the watch.

Just searched for an old friend, and found this. Sorry for your loss. Jay and I were in the Coast Guard together for a few years on both coasts. He showed me how to clam the beaches in RI with a pitchfork, and after we moved the ship to California, I brought him to my folks home in Arizona a couple of times. It was so hot that we didn't get out of the pool. He was a fun, genuine guy, and I enjoyed serving with him.

I worked with Jay while I was on the night shift his friendship was special to me because of his genuine personality. His knowledge of music was far more in depth of anyone I've ever met ..I think what I'll remember him most is his laugh , and that Hugh white beard sticking out of his beard net ..so long my friend
