Dr. Caterine and I worked together at RBH. He was kind with a boyish laugh. He respected the nurses as well as the patients. You never saw him sweat.
His demeanor was cheerful and calm. I enjoyed listening to him share about his family. It was obvious he was a devoted family man.
A close family member spent time in his care and she thrived afterward. I am forever grateful.

I was a Social Worker and worked with Dr Caterine at 2 different nursing homes at Riverside. I cannot tell you how much I respected him. He loved sharing his knowledge with staff but also families. He was able to put residents at ease & explain complicated problems to families making it easier for them to understand the problem and how to interact with his patients. There were many times residents refused to see him because they weren't "crazy." Once I got them convinced to talk to him Dr C was able to win them over.
Dr C was kind, happy, affable & humble. He often greeted me on Telehealth with a smile then jumped right in to discuss the problem. At times sharing anecdotes about his family which made us both laugh. When I retired I knew I'd miss him most, despite not talking to or seeing him very often for months as he'd gotten so busy at the hospital and had others managing the nursing home population. There will never be another like him.
My deepest sympathy is extended to his family, friends and co-workers. He leaves a wonderful legacy of caring.

I woke up in the middle of the night last week, grabbed my cell phone, and looked up Tony´s name with no forethought. Can´t explain it. I was devastated to discover his passing. We hadn´t kept in touch after rooming together at Notre Dame for two years, though I did see he and Colleen years later in Gainesville where he was doing his medical residency (a random shopping mall encounter followed by dinner) thirty years ago. He was one of the best souls I´ve ever known. I miss you and have so many fond memories. My condolences to Colleen and your family.

Dr Caterine saved my mother´s life in 2017. He was the only doctor who took the time to actually see what was going on inside my mom´s head. And he put together what was necessary to abate her extreme anxiety over having to have surgery. That care and wisdom from God has lasted my mother till now. She had another extreme anxiety episode over the death of her good neighbor and fellow church member. Now there are only telepsych´s. I´m being told they are not as good and will never be as good as Dr. Caterine. And that´s ok. God still lives and Jesus still performs miracles. Thank you Dr. Caterine. I´m sad to know that you are not on this side of life anymore and glad you are at peace.

I learned of Tony's passing just yesterday and am feeling knocked over. We met in high school, and I had the privilege of calling him one of my very dearest friends for years--though sadly, we lost touch years ago. I've read all the wonderful things posted about him here and can say that all of this was true of him as a young man: He was smart, kind, gentle, funny, fearless, caring, and giving. He loved to travel and enjoyed new people and new experiences--I was in awe of the stories he told when he returned from a summer trip to Europe. He was determined to get into med school and worked hard to achieve that goal. But he also had time for friends--he helped me through my first big heartbreak. The photo of us is one that, I believe, his mom took at Lake Okoboji, probably in 1979 or so. To Colleen and all the family, my deepest condolences. I still think of him as one of the best human beings I've ever met and will now treasure my memories of him even more.

Dr Caterine was an exceptional doctor. He was very professional, respectful and supportive. He was a great teacher, a leader and a mentor. He was my collaborative physician, always ready to listen and help. He was always prompt to respond and listen to his APPs. You could call him, text him, email him or leave a voicemail and he will promptly respond to you. He loved his job, his patients and the people he worked with. He did his job with passion. He will be greatly missed. Rest on Dr. Caterine. To the family accept my heartfelt condolences.

My condolences and prayers of comfort to the family of Dr. Caterine. I worked with Dr. Caterine for about 8 years and he was such an intelligent man. He would take the time to check in with the nurses and talk to us about best options for patients. He was always wearing a smile and made himself available. Dr. Caterine you will be truly missed by so so many people including myself. This is definitely a hard loss for the healthcare community.

Dr. Caterine was one of the most wonderful persons and doctors that I have ever met. My deepest condolences to his family!

Dr. Caterine will be sorely missed by all the patients, staff and colleagues at Riverside. He was a tremendous physician and caregiver. I respected him as much as any doctor on the staff. His honesty, knowledge, compassion and work ethic were without equal. I would like his family to know how respected he was by everyone who worked with him. Riverside won´t be able to replace him.

Dr. Caterine always advocated for his patients to move and participate in normal activities as they were able. He would tell me "they just need a room with padded walls to move around in without hurting themselves!" His approach influenced the way I perceived these patients and encouraged me to mobilize people who were generally seen as unsafe and unable to work with physical therapy. This led to many good outcomes for many patients and has greatly influenced my mindset for patient care in the hospital. He always answered my questions with patience and respect and I enjoyed every one of our interactions. My favorite memory was his insistence on interrupting rounds in MICU (as a patient) to describe how he "wasn't walking like a cowboy anymore" because his swelling had gone down.

Dr. Caterine was a truly remarkable colleague; a beacon of kindness, intelligence, and warmth. I have learned so much from him, but most importantly I have learned to extend compassion and grace. His absence has left a profound void at Riverside. Dr. Caterine will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. My deepest thoughts are with his loved ones during this difficult time.

I am going to miss seeing Dr. Caterine in the hallways of Riverside. He always spoke and had the best smile. He graciously offered many resources for our Cardiac Rehab patients regarding mental health. He cared for my uncle and showed so much compassion and kindness. He had a lot of energy and his good nature was evident. Bless you Dr Caterine , you will not be forgotten.

I enjoyed seeing Dr. Caterine smiling as he come on to the unit (5East RRMC), he always took the time to sit and listen to his patients and come out to explain the plan of care or details of his treatment so that as the nurse I could understand. I learned a lot from him and appreciated his grace, even some of his jokes. To know him was to feel his warmth, he will be missed!

Dr. Caterine with such a warm, sweet, funny guy. He took time and really listened to his patients and was so kind and warm towards them. He was wonderful to staff he worked with, and was always planning kayaking outings for us to enjoy. Every month, he and Dr. Phil Schlobohm would meet with us staff members for dinner to get to know us as the people we were, not just as unit workers. I was so sorry to hear of the passing of this wonderful man, and can just imagine the loss to his family. My thoughts and prayers are with you.

Dr. Caterine was one of the happiest physicians I´ve worked with. He would always walk down the hallway with a huge smile on his face no matter what kindve day he had and because of that, it would brighten your day. No matter the question, he always had an answer. He never judged you by your lack of knowledge in any area. He would answer you and teach you. You will be truly missed !

Dr. Caterine was one of the best physicians I´ve had the pleasure of working with. He was always willing to teach and share his knowledge with anyone who asked. He akways lit up when talking about his wife and kids; and he cared immensely for his patients and it showed in his actions. As an RN you always know that it can go one of two ways when paging a MD.. you´re either getting yelled at or getting help. With Dr. Caterine there was never a concern or question; you always knew you were going to get the answers/help you need. I am so grateful to have had the pleasure of working along side him and my heart and prayers go out to his family.

Everyone on CCU(RRMC) know that Dr Caterine was one of my favorite doctors. So when my colleague told me the news my heart dropped. The amount of respect and admiration for his skill was unmet. When all other interventions failed, Dr. Caterine was our Superman. Dr. Caterine we love you and thank you for everything you´ve done for our patients.

I am so sorry to hear about Tony's passing. I worked with him about 10 years ago in Riverside's Lifelong Health division. He was a funny, smart and dedicated colleague. He knew so much about mediolegal complexities and was always willing to share his knowledge. He was someone who truly lived by his principles every day and that kind of person is hard to find these days. My heart goes out to his family in this time of devastating loss.

I´m still in shock. I started working at Riverside around April1972 and two months later Tony joined and we manned the Geriatric Psychiatric Unit on 6W. We took care of our patients in the morning and in the afternoon did consults on the medical and surgical floors and shared calls. He was a caring, sound, solid clinician no doubt but he had another side to him. We quickly became friends and as pianists shared our love for classical music, played Christmas carols at the rotunda and also laughed sharing Rodney Dangerfield jokes. As good as I was, couldn´t beat him at ping pong.
He will be missed and share grief with Colleen and children.

Tony was an amazing and insightful psychiatrist. I had the pleasure of working with him for well over a decade. He was always there with guidance and a compassionate smile. A genuine soul to the core who cared about others. I'm not sure where I feel the loss most, in a trusted colleague, a caregiver for those in need or a friend I could sit down and chat with. An amazing person that will never be forgotten.

I met Dr Caterine in 2022, his office was next to ours. He would always pop by to say hello and ask us how our day was. We were moved to another section of the hospital, however he was just as close & you could guarantee every few days he´d knock on the door ready to share a joke or tell a story.
He will be missed by all that had the pleasure of knowing him. I´m so thankful to have been his office neighbor.
