My dearest brother,
My heart weeps for you for the life that was given to you. I remember as a little girl watching you play outside with Carmie - playing in the dirt and you had a loud laugh.
Then you were gone. When I turned 10, you showed up to visit us and I was thrilled to see you. You big black eyeglasses and your smile was big.
Then I didn't see you until I was newly married. I remember you sitting on the front steps to my home, smoking your cigar and telling us of your adventures.
Even though, we never saw each other again, you will always be my big brother and I will love you always.

One of your younger sisters, Cindy

Dearest older brother,
I am shocked to learn of your death. The first time I met you I was surprised, I didn't know you, I didn't know what to expect. We [ as a family were happy to have you] I didn't know what the circumstances were with Mother life is sometimes very overwhelming.
There is no way and nothing to say that would comfort you.
I hope you finally have the peace that you were looking for.
Your little sister Joyce

I knew Tony when I was a little kid and he was one of the people who inspired me to become a career United States Marine. Great obit brother, RIP and Semper Fi.

I met Tony in the early 70's, we had both recently gotten out of the service and were working at Western Electric as cable formers. We both eventually got tired of factory work and decided to go to college. It's ironic that after college, we both ended up working in television broadcasting ; he as a weatherman at Channel 3 and I as a news photographer at Channel 6. I saw Tony occasionally, but gradually lost touch. I liked Tony and enjoyed his company and was sorry to hear of his passing. Rest in Peace Tony.

I met Tony Cervantes 54 years ago when I arrived at Boys Town in 1969.

Tony was the Commissioner of Cottage 28, the cottage I was initially assigned to.

A group of us from Cottage 28 enlisted in the Marines before graduation. And we all ended up together on the island of Okinawa, a tropical paradise.

In 1974 I returned to Omaha and began attending college. And during this period, I was VERY close to Tony!

I left Omaha and moved to Denver in 1978 and unfortunately lost contact with Tony.

Five years ago, I retired and moved to Mobile AL. Lottery tickets are not available in Alabama, so my wife and I frequently drive to Pensacola Florida to buy one. The route is via Hwy 90/Cervantes Street! The joy of the trips was dreaming of winning big and buying Tony a mansion on: Cervantes Street.

Rest in Peace Brother Tony!

Not sure where to begin. I enjoyed reading your obit which is probably what I will do, write my own. Who knows yourself better than yourself.

You brought back some memories and feelings from the only home many of us knew and memories of the ole choir days: the tours, special singing performances and cultural events we "had" to attend

I am sadden not only from your passing, but from your experience with the VA in Omaha. I've only had nothing but a positive experience in the Dallas/Ft. Worth VA hospital and clinic.

For what it's worth now, Thank You for Your Service. You will missed as one of the mainstays of Boys Town. Love you brother and I will pray for the repose of your soul.

Tony, I always admired you for your ability to live life on your own terms. It's good you wrote this, because you knew yourself best and didn't need anyone to speak for you. I'm sending condolences to all your friends, family and loved ones.

Tony and I were friends in our senior years. He was always a good and funny friend. We were commissioners and hung out together. One of my most memorable "Cervantes" moments was at the Junior Senior Prom. Not being able to get a date I found Tony invited two girls and they both came. I vowed never to talk to him again. Look in the1969 year book and see he even got pictures with both of them. I will miss you Tony, you were truly the last of the really good guys. May God accept you into his heavenly kingdom and may you finally be at peace and rest.

Having served during the war in Vietnam, I understand and offer a heart-felt salute to Tony and all those who have and are serving America. Reading his story it hurts to know what he went through. You are in my Prayers!!

52 years we have known one another, and knew this day would come for all of us. You were a good friend all those years even when we drifted apart only to find one another again and reconnect. Whatever the after this life brings I hope it is peace and comfort for you. May you rest in peace my good friend.
