I was utterly heartbroken when I heard from, Kyle that, Big T had passed away. I got to know, T through, Kyle and what a character he was. "I don´t understand a word he´s saying" I recall hearing from T after talking to me on the phone for the first time lol. My strong Glaswegian/Scottish accent was too hard for him to understand at first but, he got use to it. Calling to speak to him when I had many a questions became the norm. He was a gentle giant of a gentleman & he will continue to be sorely missed. I pray G-d that, Ima Kyle, Justin & his family take great comfort from the memories & these messages of love we all had for, Big T. May his memory continue to be a blessing. Miss Ya Aba 2.

Sad to hear about Uncle Tony. I remember him as a sweet man who opened his house to the whole world, it seemed, for Thanksgiving and other holidays. That kitchen looked super spiffy when it was done. The world was better for his kindness. May his memory be a blessing.

I met Tony back in the 80’s-he worked with my father Darrell Knopfel in the Pgh airport. What a wonderful full life he led. My condolences to Kyle and his family.

The poker club : Tony, Chas, Pete, Howard, Dean, and Don (and Justin occasionally) ... These guys played together every month for about 5yrs ... making up silly poker rules and betting the house on every game ! Great group and great memories were made ... wives would meet up for dinner & drinks ... Tony always had a joke or a smile on his face which we´ll always remember . Howard & Milvia Smith

Tony and I started doing consulting work with the FAA on the same day in April 2020. Both former Air Force members, both air traffic controllers. He had a wicked sense of humor and was a great storyteller. He was a mentor, a leader and a good friend. I'm grateful to have crossed paths with him. Rest in peace my friend.

Tony was a great neighbor and friend, who we got to know over the last 28 years. He was always up for hanging outside, having a wine around the grill and talking about life. He was never scared to give his opinion and a man of good humor who loved to have a good time. There are no words to express how much Tony will be missed. My deepest sympathies to Kyle and the family. Rest in peace dear neighbor.

Wow brokenhearted to see this. I loved hanging out with all of group on Ponce St. Tony F and I were in the same Jr. High together. We had a lot of laughs with Tony L , Penny, Phil, Chuck, Bill, all of them such jokesters having fun. Hanging in Fallbrook square, I can´t even remember how many times we all saw the Monty Python movies together, over and over again,then all eating pizza together. Such great memories. Haven´t seen Tony since 1981, but through friends found he was doing well . I also was friends with Sandy and Pete . May they all rest in peace. My condolences to his family. Sending sincere thoughts and sympathy to my cousin 's family. Though I only remember him as a little boy prior to moving to California.. he had a sense of goodness and wit even then. To. Joanne, his mother, my deepest sympathy as well. Send love to all.

I remember Tony driving 90mph down PCH with 4 of us in his 67 Mustang right after "blowing out" the engine at NAPA's machine shop. We all turned bleach white, including Tony. God simply looked down and said: "Not these kids, not today".
I'm flooded with childhood memories, and now so much sadness again for the family who I knew quite well.
Now I'm in Massachusetts

I met Tony at the FAA when he established AOV. I will never forget his sense of humor and his big heart especially towards his staff. Rest in Peace my friend. Janette Ramos.

I met and worked with Tony in his role as US representative in ICAO's North Atlantic safety structure where the output of my working group converged with the oversight group that he chaired in the five years or so before his retirement. He was never pompous, always considerate and patient with those whose personal views didn't always harmonise with his, but firmly holding the reins as he steered us through the agenda. The safe air navigation environment over the North Atlantic is thanks in no small part to the efforts of Tony and his colleagues both in the FAA and internationally who shared this higher calling. Socially he was great company, aided and abetted by his dear wife, despite well intentioned teasing from certain colleagues which always enlivened the dinner table. That he was unable to enjoy the fruits of his labour in a long retirement is a tragedy, but he will live on the hearts of his family and the memory of those who were privileged to share with him a small part of their lives journey.

For Tony, it was not the head count, it was the heart count. He knew all his employees´ family and their names, their special situations. He created a family type organization with Christmas and Thanksgiving open buffet, water cooler meetings for each time AOV gained a new employee, following light snacks after each new employee introduction. Even his wife Kyle was part of these new employee meetings with her delicious cupcakes. If anyone left the AOV, it was not because they did not like the organization, it was because of gaining weight due to constantly available open buffet or because learning about the other FAA organizations to come back with more knowledge. Tony supported that.
He was so humble that we did not have to be on his calendar. His door was open to everyone who wanted to speak with him. He always had time for his employees. AOV became one of the best Organizations with standard operations, and procedures. He wanted continuity, that every part of AOV had standard procedure. He was dedicated; he worked hard; he always prioritized using public money wisely, his work integrity was unmatched. One day he told me that, "a lot of people will appreciate me after my death, not now Serap". I am sorry to see that today is that day. He was too young to be one of the angels in heaven.
He had additional skills too. He literally fixed his home, re-did his kitchen, bedroom and living room, and even fixed his son Justin´s house. He never stopped working at work and at his home. I assume, he will be busy in heaven too. I'll miss him. Rest in peace Tony.

My brother, friend, partner in crime. At a young age I convinced him he was a year older than me and I recently learned he did not take our secret to the grave. That's okay little brother. We had fun planning that crime and many others. Love you so much and miss you. May you rest and say, "What's next" to your friends in Heaven. Love Cindy

We first met Tony and Kyle while walking our dog. We had the opportunity to got to know Tony a little more when we had him and Kyle for our sons´s high school graduation.Tony left a beautiful memory for us. We loved seeing him almost everyday walking the dog and outside his house doing some projects. He was a very kind person and always smiling and talking. We miss waving to Tony while driving or walking by. We will miss seeing him in the neighborhood.

I first met Tony when I broke camp in the north woods and came back to civilization to find a plane ticket to Virginia waiting for me. A flight to Virginia found Tony and Kyle waiting with open arms and a wonderful stay in their home.

My wife Fatima and I have great memories of Tony and Kyle visiting Paris. Tony´s Zest for life was contagious. We had plenty of healthy discussions and he was always a gentleman

No matter the time of day, Tony always greeted you with a smile. My dear friend I pray that you Rest In Paradise

Tony was a colleague and friend for whom I had great respect. My sincere condolences are with all his friends and family.

I first met Tony when we worked at PIT ATCT in 1982 and beyond. He trained me in the tower and we trained together in the RADAR room. Tony was the consummate team player and one of the best natural controllers I ever met. We crossed paths later when both of us were on the executive staff at 800 Independence Ave. Words cannot express my feelings. I am deeply saddened at his passing and will keep the family in my prayers. He was a great man.

Tony was my neighbor when I moved to Va. Him and his wife Kyle were incredibly kind when no one else was. It was comforting to find and know such wonderful people. Prayers to Kyle and the rest of the family in this difficult time.

I was a fresh controller in Pittsburgh and learned a ton from Tony. RIP and May God Bless your family.

RIP old friend. I worked with Tony at FAA HQ on several levels. His smile, good (and not so good) humor and his dedication to service to our customers was second to none. My thoughts and prayers to the family.

I worked around and with Tony for many years in the field of safety. He was my 2nd level boss in AOV. He always supported me, and kept his promises. He was a good man, I´m sad to hear of his passing. I have many fond memories of Tony. Rest In Peace my friend.

Tony was a key member of the "no-rules cant be changed" monthly Poker group for several years. We will never forget his wit, jokes, and ribbing throughout our times together. We pray for him and his family for such a loss, but he left us all smiling.

We will miss waving to Tony while driving or walking by. Our family always enjoyed watching the progress of all his home projects. He accomplished more in a few hours at work that any of us did in a whole weekend! We will miss his kind and sweet smile and his presence in our neighborhood

Attending the UVA football games, tailgating with our family´s and knowing Tony was a better coach than Al Groh and Tony let Groh know it!

Tony was never judgmental, but full of wise advices, always ready to help without expecting anything back. One of those human being that would make the world a perfect place to live, if everyone was like him. We are going to miss the wise guy and his smile that will accompany me for the rest of my life , every time I will sip a good glass of wine I will think about you my friend.
