Anthony Germaine Obituary

Published by Legacy Remembers on Dec. 31, 2021.
Anthony J. "Tony" Germaine, a lifelong musician and resident of Pittsburgh's Point Breeze neighborhood passed away unexpectedly on December 23, 2021 at the age of 76 while enjoying an extended retreat in Lake Havasu City, AZ. Tony was born on June 23, 1945, to Jennie Germaine (nee Pitacciato) and Anthony Germaine who preceded him in death. He is survived by two sisters Sally Germaine (Brian Gray) and Jennie Genovese; five nieces and nephews, Jennifer Marino (nee Kerr), David Genovese, Anthony "Nino" Genovese, Jaqueline Vita and Daniel Wilson; and several grandnieces and nephews. Also preceding him in death were his beloved siblings David Germaine and Roberta Wilson (nee Germaine) as well as nephew, Fiore Genovese.
Tony was a prolific guitarist, vocalist and composer who had perfected his craft over the course of his lifetime. His passion for musical performance began in his early years forming bands with his friends and family to entertain at wedding receptions, nightclubs and family parties.
A well-known figure in the Pittsburgh music scene, he went on to create and produce "Cowher Power", a song that won two Steeler's song contests and received radio/television air play. Tony played in several bands across the country and his musical stylings ranged from rock n roll, rhythm & blues to pop and jazz. Until the time of his death, he continued to perform as part of a duo in Lake Havasu City, AZ.
Tony was a proud veteran of the U.S. Air Force where he enlisted upon graduation from Taylor Allderdice High School in 1965. He was stationed in Lansing, MI for four years. Upon his return to Pittsburgh, he worked as an agent for The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) which provided an opportunity for him to engage in the music business while pursuing another activity he loved: travel. Years later, Tony developed an affinity for physical fitness (specifically running marathons) which led him to seek a career as a City of Pittsburgh Firefighter- the position he retired from.
In addition to his musical pursuits, Tony had several other hobbies which made him an inspiration to many. Being an avid traveler and certified scuba diver led him to explore fantastic places like Brazil, the Caribbean, Mexico and a large portion of the United States. He most recently left Pittsburgh in a camper van to explore the country and fell in love with Lake Havasu. He enjoyed playing blackjack and frequently participated in tournaments. Tony's friends were a cherished part of his daily life as he thrived on their camaraderie and a great joke.
His talent and sense of humor will be greatly missed by all.
A musical celebration of Tony's life will take place in the spring of 2022. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Greater Pittsburgh Arts Council's "Emergency Fund for Artists" in his honor can be made at: https://www.pittsburghartscouncil.org/programs/artist-services/emergency-fund

I am shocked to see this. I knew Tony from his days playing at The Wooden Keg, next to the "O" in Oakland back in the 70's. I was alway glad to run into him at Jitters Cofe on Walnut St. He loved hanging out in coffee shops and talking to people.
My condolences to his family
